Y/n didn't go home straight away like she had planned, instead she did something she hadn't done in years. She decided to go to that spot she held so dearly to her heart, the place where she first fell in love, she went to the old cherry blossom tree. Her and Touya's old hang out spot. She stopped going there shortly after Touya died, she just didn't feel like there was a point to go, of she would be alone. As she approached the hill, a sense of overwhelming nostalgia and longing hit her all at once. She made her way up the grassy hill and towards the tree, it still stood tall to this day. Though, it wasn't at it's most beautiful, as it wasn't the time for the bright pink petals to bloom.
Despite that, it was just as special to her. Her heart beat was uneven, and as she grew closer to the tree, an anxious feeling grew inside her. It was like she was seeing an old friend after many years without contacting them, only this time, that old friend would not be waiting for her under that tree. She was only a few steps away from the tree when she stopped to admire it, so quite. It was always like that whenever she and Touya came here. That's why they liked it so much, no one could bother them here. It was their own special heaven.
"I miss you so much Touya. I wish I could see you again, even if for a second, just one last time." Y/n said quietly. She slowly approached the tree, and sat under it, leaning against the bark. "It's gotten so lonely without you. Everything is so dull, and so terrible and so...empty. I wish you were still here..." She began to cry again. "I would do anything to see you again. And you owe me an explanation, it's the least you can do for running off without telling me!" She sobbed into her knees. "Even after you said you loved me, and that we would run away together, you promised to never leave me and yet..." She trailed off.
"Rough day?"
Y/n's head shot up at the sudden voice. She looked around but found no one. "Up here." She looked up and saw no other than Hawks, perched on one of the branches above her. "H-Hawks?" Y/n's voice cracked. Hawks offered her a kind smile before hopping down and sitting beside her. Y/n stiffened up, she wiped a few tears away while refusing to look at him. "What are you doing here?" She asked. Hawks leaned back against the tree bark, putting his hands behind his head for support. "Just patrolling around. Looking out for any civilians in need, and look at what I came across, just that." He glanced at her, still wearing his causal smile.
"So, what's troubling you kid?" Y/n sniffled, hugging her knees close to her chest. "I'm not a kid." She pouts, making Hawk's chuckle. "Of course, but I can tell there's something on your mind. Care to share?" He asked. Y/n looks over at him. "Why do you care so much? And aren't you suppose to be patrolling like you said?"
"I was, but my shift ended ten minutes ago. And as why I care, well, it breaks my heart whenever I see someone this down. I wanna help them, isn't that what heroes do?" Y/n shrugs. Hawks looks up at the sky, watching a few clouds go by. "You know, things have to get better at some point right? Maybe not as quickly as we want them to, but they will, in time. It sucks to wait so long for something you're not even sure will happen. I mean, you could go through the worst, and wait so long for things to work itself out and it seems like it never will."
"But it will." Hawks moves to sit in front of Y/n. "And all it takes is a little bit of help from someone who cares." Y/n blinks a few times before cracking a small smile at Hawk's kind words. "Feel like sharing now?" He asks. "I-I guess so. Maybe it will help." Hawks nods, waiting for her. Y/n takes a moment to find the right words before speaking.
"A childhood friend of mine, someone who I was very close to, died just a few years ago." She starts, she couldn't ignore the pity in Hawk's expression, ignoring it she continued. "We eventually became closer and started a relationship. We thought we would finally be happy together, we even planed to run away and leave this city but...he disappeared shortly after. Next thing I knew, the news about his death spread like wildfire. You can imagine how much that hurt me." She continues. "I have no idea what really happened, his death wasn't explained in the news, his family wanted to keep it as private as possible I'm not sure what happened when he left, if he left on his own or if someone took him...honestly, I prefer he left willingly other than someone kidnapping and murdering him..."
"Oh kid..." Hawks spoke sympathetically. "I'm so sorry to hear that." Y/n shook her head. "It's fine, I'm over it..." Hawks bit back a "you don't act like it" and instead placed his hand on hers. "Is there more?" He asked. Y/n hesitated but nods her head yes. This helped, it really did. She needed someone to talk to right now.
"I'm in sort of a bad relationship, if you can even call it that." Hawks nods, letting her speak. "I've been planning on finally ending it but somehow he always draws me back in. I hate it. He's like a drug." Hawks gives her a serious look. "Should I get someone involved?"
"N-no! It's fine, it's not...he doesn't...it isn't like that, it's just. He isn't around much and when he is...he's gone before I know it, and he'll go so long without as much as a phone call. I worry about him endlessly and I shouldn't because he hardly ever returns the feeling." Hawks crosses his arms, thinking carefully about how he should respond, he wants to help but doesn't want to overstep.
"Ok, well, there isn't much I can do about your friend, aside from offer a few words of sympathy. But as for that boyfriend of yours." Hawks spoke without hesitation, full seriousness in his tone. "You need to get out of that relationship. It's not good for you, I can tell it's weighing you down kid. You seem like a very kind and wonderful young lady, if he can't see that and appreciate it, than he doesn't deserve to have you. Find someone who truly loves and cares about you, Y/n. You deserve it after everything you've went through." Before Y/n could process what she was doing, she was in Hawk's arms, holding him tightly as tears pool in her eyes.
Y/n broke down, sobbing into Hawk's chest. She cried and cried out everything she had in her, and Hawks wouldn't dare let her go until she was done. She needed this, she needed this so badly. To cry, to have someone listen, to have someone around in general. She needed it all. Thanks to Hawk's kind and supportive words, she made the decision right then and there.
She would get the information from Dabi if he had it, then she would leave his sorry ass for good. It time she started acting like the hero Touya was. She would do it for him, she would do it for Hawks, and she would do it for the civilians of the city. But most importantly she would do it for herself.
From the shadows, unknowing to either Y/n or Hakws, someone was watching...
