EJ TOOK A DEEP breath to calm his nerves, he'd never felt this way before a game. This was his first game since he'd...changed. It would be fine, he reminded himself and it usually was. He shook himself, jumping up and down to stretch his limbs.

He put on his goggles, shaking himself one more time, clapping his hands together. He walked out into the swimming pool area, glancing over at the team on the other side of the pool. Urgh, North High.

His team were sitting on the bench a few paces ahead of him. Marcus was glaring at him, and at him smiling a little too widely. EJ wanted to roll his eyes at him but he smiled back, taking a seat next to him.

"Marcus..."

"Caswell..."

Even though he was looking straight ahead, trying to look anywhere else, he could still see the smirk on his friend's face. "What are you up to now?"

"Oh, nothing," Marcus shrugged. "Just been around...you know? What about you? You holding up okay? It must be really hard."

"What?"

"To keep lying...but I suppose it just comes to you naturally."

He couldn't hold back the eye roll that time. "I told you to stay out of it."
