RICKY WAS MINDING HIS own business before he spotted a guy in a black cap and baggy tracksuit making a beeline down the halls. Ricky did a double take when he noticed the mysterious figure worm its way through the crowd of students.
Marcus had asked him to meet in the drama classroom after school. Even Ricky thought it was an odd meeting place, and he had met EJ in many weird places: behind the hedges of the football field, the janitor's closet, and a cubicle in the boys' bathroom if they were desperate, and they were, so they used that ridiculous rendezvous at least once every two weeks.
However, the difference was that Marcus and Ricky were just buddies. At least, he was sure they were now. Marcus did tend to cross the line a couple of times, like when he let his hand linger when he grabbed his shoulder, or when he told a joke that was hanging on the edge of outrageous or downright flirty━but Marcus came across as a natural flirt. He always threw in a cheeky wink, or a questionable smile long before they had gotten closer anyway.
Although...there was the prom thing.
Marcus had asked him to go with him in front of EJ, and all their friends—he'd asked him as a friend, though, and Ricky was glad about that. He was disappointed when he found out that EJ was taking Gina, and he was mad at himself for it. Ricky was mad at EJ. He didn't want to look at him. EJ didn't care about him. He needed to forget about him.
