EJ NEVER LIKED KNOCKING on his father's study door, normally, his heart pounded in his chest and his stomach churned, but this time he knew what to expect. When he was told to come in, he opened the door, and Cash was sitting how he usually was, head buried into his worklooking up for a second before going straight back to it. No distractions.

"Yes?" he asked, scribbling.

"I've been thinking about what you said," EJ took a deep breath in before continuing, "about what I want...and Duke."

He finally looked up.

"And?"

"I still don't want to go," he said, and his dad didn't look interested, until he quickly added, "but I'll go to St. Louis. I'll go to the success school."

Cash smiled, putting down his pen. He rose from his seat and extended his arms. EJ didn't really know what he was doing until his father's arms were around him. So, he hugged him back, or was just putting his hands around himhe wasn't sure if it felt as awkward as it did to him to his dad too, they didn't really do this often.

He didn't know whether it should've felt good to have some kind of approval from him, especially after things had been cold between them for a few days now.

EJ felt his heart sink. It meant his dad was happy with his decision. He wanted him to graduate early, leave Salt Lake even though he knew he didn't really want to, and say goodbye to his friends and...everyone.
