[Scaramouche POV]

Scaramouche placed some of the crystal marrow on a table, along with some sharp tools and some water that the agents had collected from the shores of Tatarasuna, which happened to contain highly reactive electro energy. The goal was to somehow alter the crystal marrow so that the ktisis could absorb its energy.

And he had already accomplished that. Multiples times, in fact. The only issue was that the moment the ktisis absorbed the energy, it would begin to seep out of it again. Hence, he'd be back to square one.

He could imagine someone making a snide remark about the time he wasted with his attempts, except there was no one who'd dare speak to him that way.

Well... none but one...

He promptly shook his head, erasing the thought before it came.

Back with the experiment, his patience was wearing thin. Dottore was more skilled at these kinds of things, but he wasn't present there. Though, even if he was, Scaramouche would sooner see his own demise than ask him for help.

"Do you require any assistance, master?" Aless, who had long been shunned to the couch in the corner, asked.

"I'm fine." Scaramouche broke the chunks into smaller pieces and collected the powder on the plate. At thus point, he could do it with his eyes closed.

There was obviously something he was missing. There had to be a way the ktisis could retain the energy.

Even if there is, how am I supposed to know?!

He grit his teeth in frustration and poured the contaminated water on the powder.

A loud explosion followed, releasing bouts of a smoke with an eerie purple colour.

Aless immediately got up on his feet. "Master, are you hurt??"

Scaramouche coughed, shielding his eyes away from the smoke. The explosion had caught him by surprise. Judging by the odd color of the smoke, Scaramouche would've expected the air to be poisonous. Yet, he and Aless remained unaffected.

What the?

In his past attempts, he hadn't encountered this smoke. This meant that he had done something differently.

He looked over the at the contents of the table. The crystal marrow on the plate had nearly burned out. The other chunks around it had caught some residue of the explosion and were emitting thin trails of smoke themselves.

Among everything lay the ktisis, which had gained a bright tint of purple.

Scaramouche walked over and picked it up, observing it as the red and purple swirls merged to form a dark maroon.

Hm...
