[Scaramouche POV]

It all happened a moment's flash. He did not want to use it as an excuse, but there was little he could do to protect anyone in such short time.

After Y/n left, the events of before replayed in his mind.

"Resurrect him! Please!!" Y/n cried, trying to jump back into the electro water. "The way you resurrected me!!"

"It's not possible. His body cannot be retrieved." Scaramouche replied, holding them back from their demise. "And even if it could, he didn't have a soul like you."

"... Why... There could've been a way..."

"There isn't one. Just stop."

"No... Why... Why did you have to say those words to him..? If you hadn't, maybe he wouldn't have... Did you not care about him...? I wanted to believe that you did..."

"..."

Y/n did not cry anymore. Their eyes, though wet with tears, showed no emotion. "Fine, then..."

The person in question had already left. The silence that came after left him in a numb state.

Y/n would not listen to him as he explained the harsh truth, but he did not blame them for that. He had also lost people he once considered precious in the past. And this was the first time Y/n witnessed someone's death.

Well... the death of someone close to them, to be exact.

It did not help that the one who died was Aless, someone Y/n had spent a lot of time with, willingly or otherwise. Scaramouche doubted it was that easy to get attached to someone in such a short time, but he couldn't speak for Y/n.

Either way, he had done what he could. He'd be lying if he said he didn't feel upset, but that was all. He'd always known Aless would die as he was destined. It was one of the reasons Scaramouche initially avoided getting close to him.

But he was still forced to acknowledge his existence, assign him orders and ask of him every single day. It was why he tried to reach out for Aless, to catch him. But even if he did, he couldn't have prevented their fall.

As much as he didn't want to admit it, he'd thought of how Aless' death would potentially render the electro water harmless for Scaramouche and Y/n. In the end, he had to choose between Aless dying... or all three of them dying.

Even so, he tried to catch him. It was the satellite who, in the end, did not take his hand. Maybe he had the same idea as him. Scaramouche understood it, and held on tightly to what he could salvage.

Was it really Scaramouche's fault that things turned out this way? He didn't know, but if it wasn't, then he shouldn't be feeling so pathetic right now.

The feeling of incompetence... Somehow, none of what he wanted ever came true. Was he wishing for the wrong things? Or using the wrong methods?

He always believed there was nothing that could make him come to regret his decisions. And yet, he would've done things differently if he'd known it would come to this.

Ah... Dammit all again...
