Chapter 6:

Unknown P.O.V.

The air turned black all around me, scaring me immensely. Me and Benny had just been trying for hours to get clues from Lilith. But Demons aren't always keen on helping. I didn't care about Lilith, though. I cared about finding me and Benny's elder sibling. My grey eyes sparkled with hatred for The Queen. "Come on December, we've gotta go." Benny said. Then we started walking to our motorcycle, all the while me thinking of the world I lived in.

Ascio, as far as worlds go, was horrible. The Queen believed that families should be small and easy to forget. The Queen decreed that any woman who bore more than one child would be killed and so would her children. Some families escaped, though. Able to get away with all of their children.

Mine and Benny's mother did, well, almost. She left one of her children at an orphanage, but never told us about our older sibling. At least, not until she was almost gone.

"December, Benny, trust me. I just wanted to make sure he was safe. I can't tell you his name, though I can tell you of ways to find him. Your father was a Dark Angel and cursed you with this life of hiding. I am happy you finally found your wings, but your older brother is part of a prophecy; the prophecy meant to save this world." December stared at her mother quizzically, wondering why she was being told this. She knew her mother was sick, but why tell her this now, when she was only 15 years old?

"I don't understand, mother. Why do you tell us this?" Benny asked suspiciously. The old woman shook her head, and spoke one last time. "My loves, this is your purpose. Although, it's not going to happen for years, probably not until you're well into your twenties. But you have to find him. Find him, and his true love, then find Cortana Maple. She will help. That's all I'm allowed to say." and then she passed.

I angrily wiped tears from my eyes from behind of my brother, who was driving. I pulled my other arm from his waist to tie up my raven black hair, which was blowing around my face and body like a black curtain. We drove through the night, finally stopping at our cabin in the woods of Vancouver, British Columbia. It was dawn and Benny really wasn't a morning person, therefore he fell face first into bed as I made myself a cup of coffee in our tiny kitchen.

God, what has it been, 11 years since Mom died? I wondered, chewing my lip. I took another sip of coffee, staring off into space. All of a sudden, my wings popped out from my back, ripping my shirt, I've got to start cutting holes in my clothes. I thought lividly. I picked at the lose silver and black feathers, admiring them. Silver tips to match my eyes, black to match my hair. I wonder what my older brother's will look like. I thought happily, remembering how Benny's were gold and black. Me and my brother had black hair, so our older brother probably had it too. But all our eyes were different. Maybe my older brother's would be green. Or blue. Blue is a good color.

But how would me and Benny get to London? We couldn't take a boat, those cost money. Nor a plane, they cost even more money. The only way is to fly. But I didn't know how to fly, and neither did Benny. Maybe I could teach myself. I have all this time on my hands until Benny gets up, so why not? It couldn't be too hard, well all you have to do is flap them, right? I decided to finish my coffee then try and figure out how to use the contraptions on my back. All it was, was flying.

I found my way through the forest, the mist crowding my ankles. I finally found a clearing among the trees, putting in my headphones and turning on my music. I guess I'll just flap them to the beat of the music. I decided in my head. I changed the song to a slow one, because slow and steady worked the best. I stretched out my ginormous wings, and flapped them once, twice and three times. Okay maybe a bit harder. I thought. I beat them more forcefully, and started hovering. Okay, now just faster. And that's all it took. Soon enough, I was above the trees, almost crashing but catching myself when I did. I span and soared and relished in the feeling of being above the world. Being bigger than everything around me.

After a few hours, when it was time to sleep myself, I went back inside and went straight to bed.

December looked around herself, and the mist around her turned black and shadowed ."Hello, daughter." She heard a male voice somewhere speak. "Father? Why do you wish to speak to me now? When I am of 26 years?" A figure stepped out of the mist, with pale white skin and silver, soulless eyes. He swept the dark brown hair out of his face and grinned darkly. "Why, you ask? Oh, because I've been keeping an eye on little Philip." "Who's Philip?" December asked suspiciously. "Only your brother, of course. Although, he goes by the name Phil." It all made sense now. Her father had to keep an eye on her brother. But why? He was a grown man, raised in an orphanage. Why would he need his father watching over him?

"Why are you here?" December questioned, looking him up and down as if that would give her an answer. "It does get boring being alone all the time. I thought I should at least visit one of you three." "But why now? I don't understand." "Because, the time for the prophecy has come, and I intend to stop it." "How?" "Goodbye, December." He laughed evilly, vanishing from sight. "No!" December yelled.

"Ember! Ember! Wake up!" I bolted upright, not forgetting a single thing my father said. "Father, he's going to try and stop us. From finding Phil." "Who's Phil?" Realization dawned on Benny's face as he went pale. "Phil, Phil is our brother? Father doesn't want us to find him?" "The prophecy is supposed to save the world, and our father is a dark angel, of course he doesn't want us to find Phil!" I said quickly, then smiled like mad. "What?" Benny asked. "I have a plan to get to Phil. Come on!" I rushed to my feet and put on my shoes and coat, gesturing with my hand for Benny to hurry up. As soon as he was ready, I ran outside, dragging my younger brother behind me.

"What is this so-called plan?" Benny asked. I took off my coat and my wings shot out, and I laughed excitedly. I burst into the sky, looking down at my younger brother's amazed facial expression. I came back down, and as soon as my feet touched the grass below me, Benny shouted "Show me how to do that!" I showed him, and he was instantly good at flying. We both came back down to earth and ran inside, me explaining my plan. "So we just fly to London, basically. I have a map, and I'm going to figure out the route while you pack." Benny nodded and rushed to his room to pack. I grabbed the map from the coffee table and figured out our route.

In an hour we were ready and outside, Benny just stretching his wings so he wouldn't sprain them. "Come on, we gotta go!" I muttered impatiently at my younger brother. "Just a minute. There, done." He said and shot up into the sky. I followed and explained that we would have to go west for about six hours, taking breaks every two hours. So in total, we would be in the United Kingdom in about seven and a half hours. The first 2 hours were easy, but every time we stopped and started again, I and Benny got even more tired and sore.

But finally, after eight hours of flying and breaks, we reached Manchester. "Come on, Benny. Just a bit longer." We stuck to flying above apartment buildings so we wouldn't be seen by pedestrians. We got to London in half an hour and landed down in a park, going to the first library we saw. Once we got inside the library, I kindly asked for a phone book. I looked for Lester as that was my and Benny's last name and it probably was Phil's too. I found it relatively fast and thanked the woman at the front desk. I found a map of London and pin pointed Phil's apartment on it. It turns out we had passed it on our way to the library.

We walked to the apartment and rang Phil's buzzer. The door opened immediatley and I walked inside, followed by Benny. Both of them went up the lift and went up to Phil's floor, eventually finding his door. We knocked loudly and chuckled as a loud groan sounded from deep within the apartment. Yep, that was definitely our brother.

The door opened, revealing a wide-eyed, sleepy-looking, tall young man with curly brown hair and brown eyes. "Are you Phil?" Benny asked. The guy shook his head and smiled. "I'm Dan. I'll get Phil." He walked back into the apartment and I heard another groan, but in a deeper voice this time. A slightly shorter young man with raven black hair and bottle blue eyes walked into the entryway, rubbing his eyes sleepily.
