Ira's POV

I see a text from Kristian after my first class.

As we were getting steamy this morning we let our drinks get cold :) Meet me by the coffee house after your class.

I chuckle at his message and make my way there. As I turn the corner. I see him fidgeting nervously as he alternates between checking his phone and looking around. When he finally sees me, he breaks out into a smile and I can't help the one that forms on my face as well. It occurs to me he was worried if I'd show up. I feel my heart drop when I realize he thinks I might be upset with him because of this morning. He picks up our drinks as we walk towards each other.

"Lets go sit at inglenook," he says. Inglenook is the name of our fireplace area. It's a pavilion with a central fireplace that has tables, chairs and couches.

We sit down on one of the plush couches and I again wrap my hands around my warm drink like I did this morning.

"How's your wrist doing?" Kristian asks.

"The cold is making it ache," I shrug. "And before you ask, yes I took my medicine," I roll my eyes.

"Well, maybe we should get warm again," he winks.

I quickly dart my eyes around us. "Shh, Kristian! We're not alone!" I whisper harshly.

He chuckles.

"And I'm warming up just fine with this drink, thankyouverymuch," I respond with a self-satisfied smirk as I lean back into the couch. I can feel him giving me a side glare but I pretend I don't notice while sipping on my drink. I have the urge to lean into his side so he can put his arm around me but I catch myself before I do. It's so hard not to lose myself around him. We are naturally so comfortable around each other that it's a struggle to keep our distance in public. Without meaning to, I let out a frustrated sigh.

"I know," he says under his breath.

"Why do we even meet up in public?" I grumble. Kristian's slight gasp tells me I hurt him with my words. "I mean it's just hard not to be our normal selves.

"Because we'd barely see each other if we only spent time together in private," he answers quietly.

"I know, plus we have to practice for how we behave at team meetings," I joke trying to lighten the mood. "Speaking of which, we have one tonight."

"These meetings are the hardest two hours of my week. We have to be even more careful about staying at arm's length," he says.

"Yes, I know, how do we even pull it off?" I chuckle. "As far as everybody else is concerned, we're just acquaintances."

"I don't know, but it takes all my self control," he huffs.

"Same here," I mumble.

"Especially now, it's instinctual for me to help you when it comes to your wrist and at these meetings I have to take a step back! Drives me nuts!" he grumbles as he turns his upper body towards me. "I told you that day in the pool, I won't stop being protective! There's a line where I can't stop myself. People should be okay with the fact we're 'friends' by the time the trip comes, so I'm definitely gonna be more hands on."
