"I'm so nervous

"I'm so nervous." I whisper to my best man standing next to me, while I stare at the closed door at the end of the church. I know the pews are filled, but nothing is going to drag my eyes away from that door.

He pats me on the back. "You have nothing to worry about, I'm here."

"You have no idea how much I appreciate man. I was afraid you weren't going to make it."

God, what's taking her so long?

"I wouldn't miss this, buddy. In fact, I've been here the whole time; every step of the way." I hear the smile in his voice. "And what a ride it was. Do you know how many times I wanted to come down and shake both of you guys. You two can be so stubborn." He chuckles.

What is he talking about?

I anxiously look down at my watch, it should have started by now. "That's weird, my watch must be broken, the clock isn't moving."

"That's because it isn't time yet." He answers.

"What in the hell are you talking about?" I lift my head and am met with familiar blue eyes. But not the blue eyes I'm used to seeing every day that remind me of my best friend.

No.

These familiar blue eyes actually belong to him.

"James?" My voice catches, my heart beats and sweat forms on my brow. "But—"

"It took you long enough." His chuckle echoes throughout the church, the people once in the pews, disappeared. "She's not here, because it's not time yet."

"What are you talking about?"

"You guys are good for each other." Putting his hands in his pockets, he starts walking, nodding for me to follow. And I do.

The church begins to vanish around us and it's replaced with the familiar walls of JJ's room. James sits down on JJ's bed, looking down at his sleeping child; the one he never met. His jaw clenches, while tears form in the corners of his eyes.  He doesn't make any other movements, he just simply watches him.

"He looks more and more like you everyday." I whisper. Although, I still have no idea what's going on, I've decided I'm not going to question it. James is here, and I'm going to embrace it.

"I look after him, you know?" James' glossy eyes meet mine. "Even though I can't be here physically, I'm with him every day. I watch him learn new things, take care of his mom and sister, and turn into such an amazing kid. And you've helped with that."

I clear my throat and wipe my eyes. "He makes it easy."

"He does, doesn't he?" James chuckles, and continues to watch over JJ as he sleeps.

Walking over, I join James on the bed. "He loves hearing stories about you. The older he gets, the more aware he gets. I can't believe he's six already."
