CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO:
ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES

SHE STAYED CLOSE TO SAM, knowing that if the dark magic took over Sam could quickly turn and knock her out before she had the chance to do anything. She felt like another person was living in her body, and she didn't like the feeling at all. She wanted to control what was happening to her, even though she was the reason that this was happening to herself in the first place. She couldn't help but silently curse herself for being so hard headed, she wished she would've just listened, but no, she didn't and now she facing the consequences.

She swallowed thickly as they grew closer and closer to the location of Willow, and when they finally found the woman with her hands on her hips, talking quickly with her phone pressed against her ear and a smile forming on her lips, their shoulders seemed to relax slightly. They didn't make a noise, patiently waiting for the woman to get off the phone and once she did, she was quick to tuck her phone in her pocket before turning on her heel.

She was surprised to find the duo standing there, and she couldn't help but notice the way that Skye was clinging to Sam and it made her heart warm slightly. She tucked a strand of dark hair behind her ear as she gently smiled at the two and took a few steps closer to them. "I didn't hear you guys come in." She kept coming closer until she was standing right in front of Skye, and she watched as the woman took a step back from her. She frowned slightly. "Skye? Are you alright?"

"How can you even ask me that?" Skye whispered, tears springing to her eyes as she looked towards her best friend. "How can you even get near me? I almost killed you, Willow." She almost hadn't caught it, the shaking in her voice, but when she did, Willow's heart seemed to shatter in her chest. She swallowed thickly, trying to keep the tears from forming in her eyes. Skye saw herself as nothing but a monster, something Willow had experienced before the necklace had been created that she wore everyday. Willow had an object to control her curse, Skye only had herself, she only had her body and mind, and she was losing.

Skye was losing the battle against herself, and the dark circles that formed under her eyes was only the beginning signs. Willow knew that she needed to act fast. That she needed to find a way to help Skye, and get her out of this predicament that she had put herself in. Because whether or not Skye agreed, what she had done was an accident. Willow knew that the woman was stubborn and hard headed, she knew Skye wouldn't heed her warnings, so even if Skye was the cause of her own losing battle, she simply hadn't known or believed that consequences that Willow had spoken of.

Willow met Sam's eyes briefly, and she could tell that he wanted to help Skye, he just didn't know how. He didn't know how much he was helping by simply being there, standing beside of her, and being a shoulder that she could lean on. Willow clenched her jaw, forcing her tears to fade before she offered Skye a small smile and shook her head. "Skye, I don't blame you for what happened to me. I truly don't. So I beg of you to do the same, to not blame yourself because of something that you have no control over."

Willow took a deep breath, lifting her chin slightly as she took a confident step towards Skye, showing the dark haired woman that she wasn't afraid of her. Just how Skye hadn't been afraid of Willow when Willow had explained to her and showed her what it was that she could do. Willow wasn't afraid of anything really, besides herself of course. So that's why when she smiled and nodded, it was sincere. She reached forwards, placing a hand on Skye's shoulder before she moved her hand towards Skye's own, grabbing hold of it and nodding once more.

"You're going to get through this, Skye Reva. Do you hear me?" Willow whispered, and she was trying so desperately to keep the fear from her voice, knowing that what she was saying may or may not be true. But Willow had to believe it was true, she had to find a way to give Skye hope, and this was it. She squeezed her friends hand, "You know why you're going to make it through this?"

     "Why?" Skye mumbled.

"Because you're one of the lucky ones, you got me and you got Sam by your side. We're going to be here every step of the way." She watched Skye glance towards Sam, the man giving the woman he cared for a firm nod of the head. Because he was going to be there the whole way. He was going to be there whenever Skye needed him to be. Because whether he realized it or not, Skye Reva was the woman his heart seemed to long for, the woman that his mind constantly ran back to. She was someone that he quickly grew to care for, and she had to be okay. He was going to make sure that she was going to be alright.

"Not only are we going to be here, you've got the best team of superheroes that will do whatever they can to help you. The best doctors. All of it." Sam squeezed the hand that Willow wasn't holding. "All of us are here for you, Skye. You just have to let us help you." He watched as Skye turned her head to look at him, their eyes meeting. "So, please, let us help you." She hesitated for a moment before finally she nodded, and that was all he and Willow needed before making their way towards the lab where Rosalynn and Bruce were patiently waiting for them.
