It’d been 2 days since I last spoke to Maddie. I didn’t know if she was mad at me, if she didn’t want to hear from me again, or if she was just busy. I had texted her a couple of times, but got no reply, and I didn’t want to be annoying. Today was her first day at uni, so I thought it wouldn’t be a problem if I texted her once again.
To: Maddie
How was uni today? I hope it was good, call me whenever you’re free :)
It didn’t take her too long to reply.
From: Maddie
Good I guess, what about you?
To: Maddie
It would’ve been better if you’ve given any signals of being alive earlier, you know, you could’ve replied to any of my texts:)

I know, but I’ve been busy

Sure, you didn’t have any time to reply to a simple text

Think whatever you want to, you don’t even have to care anyway
I decided to call her, we just couldn’t speak about that through texts. I didn’t want to fight, but we needed to talk about it. I dialed her number, I almost knew it by heart.
“Hello?”
“Maddie”.
“Niall?”
“Yes, it’s me”.
“Wht do you want?”
“Why didn’t you want to reply to my texts?”
“I didn’t have any time, I told you”.
“You’re lying”.
“Niall, I’m not. And anyway, you don’t have to care about that”.
“But I do. We’re not ‘Maddie and Niall’ anymore, there’s an ‘us’ now. And that’s why I was worried about you”.
“That sounded as if I was your girlfriend, and I’m not”.
“I know, but understand me, you didn’t answer”.
