Nate lent me his car to go to Dartford. I drove to Niall’s house and he jumped in the car. I started the engine without saying any word. We got to Dartford, parked in a place nearby and got off the car. I rang the doorbell and Chris opened the door.
“Chris, this is Niall”.
They shook hands and we came in. Chris and Niall went to the living room while I headed to the kitchen tos ay hit o Jade. I hugged her and looked at her smiling.
“And Niall? Didn’t he come in the end?”
“Yes, he’s with Chris in the living room”.
“By the way Maddie, you need to know something”.
“Spit it out”.
“It’s just…”
Someone interrupted us.
“Maddie!”
I turned around and saw my dad with his arms wide opened, I guess he was about to hug me.
“What are you doing here?”, I asked.
“Aren’t you happy to see me?”
“I don’t know why I should, Gary”.
“You know I don’t like it when you call me Gary, why don’t you just say ‘dad’ like every other girl?”
“As if you deserved it”.
“Maddie, I don’t want to fight, I just want to sort things out”.
“You can’t make up for what you did five years ago”.
“What are you talking about?”
“Don’t act like a fool, we’ve already spoken about it a hundred times. I’m sorry Jade, I can’t stay here. I’m leaving”.
I grabbed my jacket and left the kitchen, being followed by Jade.
“Maddie, please stay”.
“Jade why did you tell him to come?”
“I didn’t. I told mum you were coming today, and she must’ve told him herself. He arrived this morning”.
“And why did you let him stay?”
“It’s our father, what did you expect me to do?”
“I stopped considering him my father long ago”.
“Maddie, people change, give him a chance”.
“No, Jade, no. Did he care about us any time of his life?”
