PADMINI and RATAN SINGH

Many modern historians reject the story of Padmini, but other characters in this story are real.

Malik Muhammad Jayasi has written Padmavat in about 1540 AD. If you want you can get the book, it is translated in English and even a movie is also made on this book same as the title PADMAVAT.
Let's get back to the story.

Padmini was a princess of Ceylon( present-day Sri Lanka). She was well known for her beauty.

Ratan Singh was the ruler of Chittor, having learned about her beauty from a parrot, and he fell in love. He went to Ceylon and was successful in winning her love. She was then brought to Chittor.

Once by chance Raghavdev, a wizard, saw her and he went to the court of Allaudin Khilji (ruler of Delhi) and reported to him about Padmini's extraordinary charm.

Allaudin to make her his wife siege to the fort of Chittor, but it was difficult to win Chittor. He use different tactics as well to win the fort. He sent a message to the Ratan Singh that if Padmini's reflection could be shown to him in a mirror, he would go back to Delhi. Ratan Singh agreed.

Khilji kidnap Ratan Singh with treason and sent words to Queen that if he want to see her husband alive, she should marry him. She agreed to save her husband. Under the leadership of two commandos of Chittor Gora and Badal 1600 soldiers undercover themselves in women clothes along with the Queen to save Ratan Singh.

She wished to see her husband for the last time before marrying Khilji which he gladly accepted. Some brave soldiers rescued Ratan Singh and Padmini and carried them off to Chittor.
Then followed a deadly fight between both armies in which brave Gora and Badal martyr.

Later Allaudin again attack Chittor and occupied it. Ratan Singh died on the battlefield and Padmini and several other women suicide to preserve their honor (the winning side always treat women and children of the defeated side badly, most of the time their condition was even worse than animals).

Though there is conflict in the historicity of Queen Padmini the story is very popular, especially in western India.

That's it for today, I'll see you tomorrow. Byeeeeee ❤️
