the volleyball captains voice echoed throughout the gym; alerting the tall blonde of the boy at the entrance.

"alright, tell him i'll be there soon."

kei's bored voice travelled slow, matching the nod tobio gave back.

"what's your name?"

"kageyama."

"do you play volleyball?"

"no."

tobio voice became quieter, awkwardly looking towards his feet.

"well you're- "

the same unenthusiastic voice called out once more.

"tobio!"

"yes?"

"mom's not home, i have to stay at practice for a bit longer."

"oh. i'll just sit and do homework."

"why not you join practice, i don't think daichi-san would mind."

kei looked over at daichi, earning a nod of approval.

"see? c'mon now."

"but i don't play."

"alright everyone! we'll have kageyama joining us for today, don't be too bothersome!"

the last sentence being a warning to a certain pair of second years, daichi turned back to tobio.

"it's alright if you don't know how to play, tsukishima here can show you the loops."

"you told him you can't play?"

"he can play?"

"i told him i don't play, there's a difference."

tobio let out an annoyed sigh, stretching his arms in the process.

"wait, if he can play, mind if we add you to a little practice game?"

kei looked at tobio hopefully, urging him to say yes.

"yeah, sure."

"what position do you play?"

"setter."

"perfect."

daichi smiled, dividing the team up into groups. tobio being on the same side as kei, he already knew how the day would end.

"kei."

"oh come on tobio."

"you know i don't play anymore."

"but you do. and you're still so amazing at it. the captain loves you, and the orange idiot got addicted to your sets faster than a man can become addicted to cocaine."

tobio laughed at the comparison, looking down at the sign up given to him earlier that evening.

"think about it?"

"maybe.."
