Diana De Angelais

The ringing in my ears wouldn't stop, it was constant, a high-pitched pain right in the back of my head. My eyes were closed tight, and I could tell by the horrible feeling I had that it would hurt to try and open them. My entire body ached, but somehow felt numb at the same time. I was stiff, unable to move, and I didn't know if it was from how bad I was hurting, or if there was something else stopping me from moving.

I wanted to open my eyes but when I tried, it just created an even stronger radiating and pulsating pain all throughout my body.

I tried again, forcing myself to peel my eyelids open, trying hard to ignore the pain of the dim light of the room invading my eyes.

I closed my eyes again, feeling completely exhausted.

I just wanted to go to sleep, my body was telling me that I couldn't be awake, even though I was so sure I had just been in some sort of deep sleep.

"Dais..."

I tilted my head back, so I was looking up, a painful whine left the back of my throat as I did. It hurt to move, it hurt to open my eyes, it hurt to breathe. I wasn't sure where I was right now, the last thing I remembered was getting my hair and makeup done by some woman before Stefan's showing with me.

Everything after that was a blur.

My head hurt so badly.

I knew the memories were somewhere in my head, but it hurt too much to think of them.

"Dais, please open your eyes..."

My mind registered the voice I was hearing like an echo in my head. I could hear it, but I could hardly recognise it, it was familiar. Comforting. Maybe I was making it up, making up the soft voice in my head to give myself some sort of comfort. Nobody here wanted to comfort me or make sure I was okay.

It hurt too much to open my eyes.

Just before I could try again to open my eyes, I felt another type of pain.

My head shot to the side and there was a sting overtaking one side of my face, followed by a voice yelling in my ear, a different voice this time. It wasn't the same person as before. This person was angry, aggressive.

"Wake the fuck up!"

My eyes snapped open at the fright I got from being shouted at as well as the slap across the face I had just gotten.

It took a few moments for my eyes to adjust to the light of the room. It was pretty dark with only one lightbulb swinging from the ceiling. I recognised the room instantly as the one I had been in for the past three weeks.

Except this time instead of being chained up to the bed just by my foot, my wrists were also locked together in a pair of handcuffs, my hands in my lap, my back was against the headboard of the bed, and I was sitting upright.

I turned my head to the side, the first thing I saw and recognised was James, standing next to me at the side of the bed. He was the one who yelled and slapped me across the face. But I had heard another voice too.

I moved my gaze to just behind where James was standing, my heart dropped to the bottom of my stomach as soon as I recognised the other person in the room.
