Solace stands with the rest of the residents, waiting for Arizona. Cristina comes up to stand next to her."Okay." Arizona smiles, starting her speech, "I know this is the first time on a Peds rotation with me for some of you, not for others. But I wanted you to understand that I run my Peds unit a little differently than you may be used to. This is not general surgery in miniature. These are the tiny humans. The children. They believe in magic. They play pretend. There is fairy dust in their I.V. bags. They hope and they cross fingers and they make wishes and that makes them more resilient than adults."
Jackson and Charles both snicker from behind Solace, making her elbow both of them in their sides. As everyone follows Arizona through the door, Cristina turns around to her and makes a barf impression. Solace sighs, knowing Cristina is going to be miserable on this rotation.
"You going to elbow her to?" Jackson whispers in Solace's ear.
Solace shakes her head, "No way. Her elbows are super pointy and she retaliates."
Everyone enters the first patients room, seeing a little boy standing by the bed with small scrubs and a white coat on, much like the one the attending's wear. Solace can't help but smile at him when he greets Arizona in a very professional manor.
"Good morning Dr.Wallace." Arizona smiles, "I see that you've already introduced yourself to Mr. and Mrs. Boyd?"
Mrs.Boyd smiles, "Yes. Reminds me of Hillary at that age. Such an over achiever."
"Dr.Adler, why don't you present?"
Solace steps forward, next to Wallace. "Would you like to help me, Dr.Wallace?"
"Of course." The boy nods at her, keeping up the professional act. It makes Solace smile wider. She nods to him, letting him start.
"Hilary Boyd, 15 years old, fell off the roof." Dr.Wallace says, looking up at Solace for her to continue.
"52 acute fractures were diagnosed when she was admitted last night. O.R.I.F. Surgery was performed this morning by Dr.Torres and Dr.Hunt before rounds." Solace finishes.
Hunt nods at Solace, "Thank you, Dr.Adler."
"Can anyone tell me the proper dosage of Ceftriaxone for a pediatric patient?" Arizona questions.
Jackson answers, "50 Milligrams per kilogram per day."
Arizona nods, "And, Dr.Wallace, can you tell me the proper dose for this patient if she were 42 kilograms?"
Solace watches as he works the math on his clipboard, sending him a thumbs up when he answers her correctly, "2.1 grams per day... If you carry the decimal."
Everyone follows Dr.Wallace to the next patients room, which happens to be his. He climbs into bed as everyone gathers around.
"Okay, who's presenting?" Arizona asks.
