Years after they're first meeting in high school, Sugawara finds himself being dragged into a bar to see a familiar face.
Maybe he hasn't gotten over his high school girlfriend as well as he thought.

❝Not enough to be like a stranger to you❞

"Your apartment is nice," [y/n] said as she walked through the door, scanning the room. It was small; with a plain couch in the centre, a tv by the wall and the kitchen off into the corner of the room to the left of where you entered through the door. The walls were a plane beige colour and the floor was a dark wood. The only type of decoration around the house seemed to consist of green potted plants, scattered around in random places. [y/n] really did like it, she thought it was cozy.
"Oh — thank you, it's not really much though," Sugawara rubbed the back of his neck as he spoke, "I bet you're much more used to the fancier things." He wasn't sure why he said that, it was probably rude. "I mean kinda," [y/n] answered jokingly, seemingly not offended by the question. "'My house back home in America isn't that big either though, I'm not as big of a director as you think I am," she laughed.
Sugawara's heart stung at the fact [y/n] called America home now. He had almost forgotten how separate their lives were. [y/n] had moved on and is living a life completely different from his. He was far too caught up their past lives for a second.
"You're movies are amazing though," Sugawara reassured her as slumped into the couch. It had been a long night. "You've seen some of my movies?" [y/n] asked. Sugawara turned to look at her, her face was absolutely full of shock with a glimmer of excitement in her eyes. "I've seen all of your movies," Sugawara replied. He thought that would be an impressive thing to say in the moment but as the words trailed off his lips, he thought he just sounded weird and stalkerish. I mean who watches every single one of their ex's movies? Get it together, Suga, he scolded himself for what felt like the a millionth time that night.
He had been too busy lost in his thoughts to notice [y/n] scramble over to the couch and take a seat next to him. He forced himself to not blush once he realised her closeness, only a small space on the coach separated them, which was where her hands now rested. Her eyes still had a shine to them that basically screamed that she was thrilled to know he'd seen her movies. Maybe it was a good thing to mention, Sugawara pondered.
"You have to tell me if you liked them or not!" She grinned, then suddenly gasped, "oh! Do you have a favourite?" She leaned in closer. Sugawara found himself stuttering. "I — I really like that recent one you did, with that actor friend you have. What's his name? Masa..." He knew his name now but he didn't want to sound so eager.
"Masahi?" [y/n] answered for him. "Yeah!" Sugawara clicked his fingers, gaining some confidence thanks to [y/n]'s enthusiasm. "You're new stuff has been amazing, [y/n]. You've clearly perfected your craft now." [y/n] blushed at his words, looking away for a second and that desperate feeling of wanting to kiss her hit Sugawara like a bus all over again.
He found it so hard to not acknowledge the closeness. Even more so when his body seemed to move on its own closer to [y/n] until there was nothing but a silver of space between their lips. He was so close now that she could feel the heat coming off his body.
[y/n] couldn't even think straight, her eyes kept wandering to his lips and there was no way of distracting herself from the closeness of his face from hers. She didn't need to be a mind reader to know he wanted to kiss her, and badly. She wanted to just as much but couldn't find the courage within herself to make the move.
Sugawara, on the contrary, finally found the courage to move is hand up to her face and brush a loose stand of hair behind her ear, using at as an excuse to keep his hand resting on her face and letting is thumb stroke circles on her cheek. His eyes keep trained on hers the whole time, looking of any indication that he should stop or keep going. [y/n]'s desperate eyes flicking constant from his eyes to his lips gave him all the confirmation he needed, so he leaned in and closed the tiny gap the remained between them.
The kiss was soft, like both Sugawara and [y/n] were incredibly unsure of the way this was going. Sugawara's hand were lightly pressed against her cheeks as he slowly gained the confidence to press his lips harder against hers. As the kiss deepened, [y/n] found the opportunity to burry her fingers into Sugawara's hair, pushing her body against his, chests touching.
[y/n] felt a light nibble on her bottom lips and didn't wait a second of open her mouth and let Sugawara's tongue slip in. He kissed her slow, taking his time to let his tongue explore and gently sucking. His mouth didn't leave hers as he pulled [y/n] over to straddle his lap, her hands still in his hair and his fingers tracing the skin just below the end of her dress. [y/n] let out a whimper once she felt Sugawara squeezing her thigh and riding up the skirt of her black dress.
"We shouldn't be doing this," [y/n] said, pulling away, her hands still resting below Sugawara's jaw. Her voice was breathy, almost a whisper with an awkward smile on her lips. "Why not?" Sugawara murmured, going back in for another kiss, high on the moment and maybe some alcohol as well. [y/n] kissed back for a second but pulled back once more, holding his face still so she could look into his eyes. "It doesn't feel right." There was still a smile on her lips but it was a sad smile. "Why not?" Sugawara echoed his previous words with a smile, leaning his forehead on hers. She couldn't hold back the tiny giggle that left her lips.
"I haven't seen you in almost 5 years and the first thing I do when I see you again is kiss your face off?" She explained, "don't exactly feel right..." Her tone was jokey as if she was trying to keep the mood light. "We're almost like strangers to each other now." Sugawara's heart twisted at her words. "I don't think it's fair to call me and you strangers," he spoke, his tone in no way similar to [y/n]'s. "You don't think you've changed since highschool?" "Not enough to be like a stranger to you."
[y/n] smiled softly but the smile still seemed rather sad. "I think before we start..." she gestured a finger between the two of them, "...all this again, we should spend some time catching up first, okay?" She smile. Sugawara smiled back, his had a sad aura to it also. "Okay."
"Can I kiss you just one more time before we do?" Sugawara asked, he couldn't tell if he was joking or not. [y/n] laughed either way. "Okay." And he let his lips meet hers once more.
