Years after they're first meeting in high school, Sugawara finds himself being dragged into a bar to see a familiar face.
Maybe he hasn't gotten over his high school girlfriend as well as he thought.

[y/n] spent the first year of her life out of high school working at a coffee shop near her boyfriends house. Since she hasn't exactly decided on what she wanted to do until the last few months of her final year, she knew she didn't have much of a chance at getting into film school with no portfolio or anything like that. So she decided to take a year to work and film a few random things on the side.
The coffee shop was full of wannabe writers, actors and pretty much anything in relation to the arts [y/n] could think of. She wasn't sure what it was; but this coffee shop seemed to attract the Arts and Literacy students like flies. It didn't matter much either way. Having aspiring actors around to be in her short films made life a lot easier.
She worked hard that year. Making sure to let Sugawara read all her scripts and be the first to see those random shorts she would make. [y/n] even let him be in a few of the background shots if he was free while she was filming.
While [y/n] worked, Sugawara got accepted into a good college for a degree in elementary education. The work made him pretty busy during the week days but he always made sure to make time for [y/n] any chance he could.
He made sure to visit her at the coffee shop. So much so that the other workers pretty much knew him as the one regular that was dating [y/n] and drank coffee in the corner while typing away at his laptop for hours. Everyone knew him by name.
When he wasn't at her coffee shop, [y/n] was almost always at Sugawara's after work. The second she finished her shift she made sure to send him a text and by the time he answered she would be at his door almost a minute later. The 5 minute walk from the coffee shop made life for them pretty easy.
Although work made them busy but they really loved each other, so they found a way to make it work.

On a random day in March, Sugawara found [y/n] on his door step with a bright smile on her face and an opened envelope in hand. Her smile was so big, Sugawara thought it might've hurt.
She sat him down on the couch and handing him the letter, squirming in the seat beside him like an overly hyper child who couldn't stop smiling and giggling. He didn't have to read the whole letter to know what had made her so happy. She had gotten into a film school in America. Scholarship and everything.
He kissed her face and hugged her tight after seeing the word accepted in bold letters across the page. Sugawara didn't really think of the distance or the strain on their relationship at the time. He was just as happy as [y/n]. All he ever wanted was for her to do what she wanted and now she finally could.
The fear of losing her didn't even hit him until he watched her back walk away with a suitcase in hand and a bag over her shoulder. He couldn't help but feel an ache in his chest and a lump in his throat when she didn't turn to look at him one last time before turning the corner.

[y/n] and Sugawara made sure to call and FaceTime as much as possible but as the months went on those calls became very scarce and seeing [y/n] through a phone or a computer screen just didn't seem like enough anymore. He felt like he was holding her back, keeping her tied to a life she didn't need anymore.
"I think we should stop this, [y/n]" he said bluntly one day. [y/n] let out a confused laugh. "What do you mean?" Though, she probably had an idea of what he was talking about. What else would he be talking about?
"I think we should stop seeing each other," Sugawara elaborated, his tone was harsh. He felt like he had to be or he'd just start crying. "It's not fair to keeping like this, long distance isn't good." "I thought it was going well," [y/n] mumbled, not looking at the screen anymore as her voice cracked. Her smile was replaced with pursed lips and a furrowed brow. It was silent for a while, the only sound in Sugawara's room being the buzzing of the laptop engine.
"So you don't want to be my boyfriend anymore?" [y/n] snapped, "that's what your saying?" Of course not. I don't want that. Sugawara swallowed, like he was about to say the hardest thing he would ever say in his life. "Yes," He answered, their was no tone to his voice, it was completely monotone. [y/n] took a shaky breath, even the bad quality of the screen didn't even hide the fact that her eyes were glossy.
"Okay," she finally said and the call ended.
