I went into my apartment and decided to take a shower before start studying. I couldn’t stop thinking about Aaron. How did I get so lucky? I got dressed had some breakfast and sat down to learn. I couldn’t concentrate so I decided not to push it and call my mom to let her know I won’t be coming alone.

“Jenny? Is everything ok?” she asked worried as soon as she answered the phone. “Yeah everything is great why wouldn’t it be?” I asked a little confused. “You didn’t call home in two weeks and then you call two days in a row” she sounded weird and still worried. “Everything is fine mom” I said reassuring her.

“I wanted to tell you that I’ll be bringing a date for the party” I said in a quiet voice. I wasn’t sure how she would react to that. For a minute there was silence, my mother didn’t react to what I said and then she finally spoke “so who is it that you’re bringing? You are over Chris?” she asked in a very weird tone.

I wasn’t sure what I was expecting. My mom liked Chris as a person but she never liked him as my boyfriend. She always denied it but I knew that she wasn’t too sad when we broke up. “Yes mom. Me and Chris are over. I’m bringing my new boyfriend Aaron” and I couldn’t help but smile. My boyfriend Aaron. Still didn’t feel real.

Again there was silence and I felt a little nervous. What would my family think of Aaron? What if they scared him away? We only just got together. It’s a little early for him to meet everyone. Will it be ok? Would my family like me? Too many thoughts went through my head while I was waiting for my mom to answer.

“So tell me about this Aaron” my mom finally said. “Umm what do you want to know?” I truly didn’t know where to start. “Well who is he? What does he do? How did you meet? How long have you been together? Did-“  I knew that if I didn’t stop her it just wouldn’t end. “Hang on mom. One thing at a time” I laughed a little.

“Ok. Just start talking already. I want to know about this new boyfriend of yours” she said in a happy tone as if she was one of my friends and not my mom. “So his name is Aaron and he also lives in New York. He’s an actor, we met in the middle of the street, I might’ve bumped into him making all of our stuff fall all over” I said a little embarrassed and I could hear my mom trying to hold back her laugh “we met about a week after I moved here but he’s actually my boyfriend since well um yesterday.” I said in a quiet voice not knowing how she would react to that.

“You’ve been together for one day and you already want to bring him over? You know your brother! He’ll scare the poor boy in a matter of seconds!” she screamed into the phone making me hold it as far as I could from my ear.

“Don’t worry mom. I’ll talk to John and make sure he’ll be nice. And I really don’t want to come there alone.” I said a little surprised by my mom’s reaction. “Good luck with that sweetie. So tell me more about Aaron. What does he do? Stage? Movies? TV?” again she sounded like an excited friend more than anything else.

“All of those actually. Now he has rehearsals for a new musical so he won’t be able to come for the whole time but he’ll be there for the party” I said happy about my mom’s reaction. I just hope everyone will be as nice and accepting.

“All of those?” she screamed like a fan girl. “Anything I would’ve heard of?” she sounded so excited. “You definitely know a movie, but I’ll keep that a surprise I want to see if you’ll recognize him” I said laughing knowing she would. My mom loved les miserables, sometimes I think she even likes it more than me.

“Jennifer Lillian Anderson, you tell me now where that boy plays or I’ll be very upset!” she said trying to sound angry by using my full name but I knew she wasn’t really that upset that I didn’t tell her. “No mom. I think it will be better as a surprise. I know you love the movie he’s in and I want to see your face when you find out” I said laughing.

 “If you won’t tell me ill just start googling him” she said and I knew there’s a big chance she would actually do that. “You really shouldn’t mom. You like way too many movies and I’m sure there are more people named Aaron playing in all of those.” I said trying to keep her from knowing who he is.

“But how many Aarons would be the right age, live in New York and be also in TV shows and on stage?” she had a point. “Are you willing to take the chance there are no others? I’m sure you have better things to do, like plan an engagement party” I knew that there is no way she’ll be able to give a good excuse right now.

“Ok fine” she said defeated. “I should also get back to studying” I said not really in the mood for that. I loved talking to my mom. “Good luck honey. Tell me when you know when Aaron is coming and I’ll let your father know” she said “thank you mom. Love you” I said thankful that she will be telling my father that I have a new boyfriend. “Love you too. Bye” she sad and hung up.

I looked at my watch and realized that I have been talking to my mom for a while. I made myself a sandwich, turned off my phone and went to study.  After a few hours I was getting sick of studying. I turned my phone on and saw that Jess had called me.

Jess and I talk every day during her lunch break but I completely forgot about it. Oh god. She’ll probably want to know what happened last night! She’d go crazy if she knew all that happened. But I knew she’d be offended if she’ll find out later so I called her.

“Jenn!” she screamed into the phone before it even rang and I couldn’t help but laugh. “How was it? Tell me everything!” she sounded so excited. Her and my mom would get along great. “Well your plan was genius!” I got straight to the point. “He said he didn’t want to be my fake boyfriend-“ and Jess interrupted me screaming thinking I was sarcastic saying the plan was genius.

“What?! I was sure it would work! How could he not want to be your fake boyfriend? He is so stupid!” she would have continued rambling if she wouldn’t have heard how hard I was laughing. “How can you laugh about this?” she said angrily which made me laugh harder.

“Jess relax. This story actually has a happy ending” I said and couldn’t help but smile. “Well tell me!” she yelled. “Well after he said he didn’t want to be my fake boyfriend he said he wanted to come with me as my real boyfriend” I said with a huge smile on my face and I could hear Jess squealing with happiness.

“omgomgomgomgomg!!” she screamed. Was she even at work? I mean how can she scream like that with no one saying anything? “Yeah it as great. And then we had dinner and watched a movie and went to sleep” I said, the smile not leaving my face as I think about it. But then another thought came to my head.

“Oh shit.” I said looking at my watch. “What is it?” Jess asked not understanding my sudden change of mood. “Aaron and I are going on our first date tonight and I forgot about it! I don’t have enough time to get ready!” I said nervously. I had less than an hour before Aaron would finish rehearsals and come over.

"Omg!! How could you forget something like that?" Jess said sounding nervous too. "I don’t know! I was just so busy studying and talking to you!" I said annoyed. "Ok Jenn relax. Do you have what to wear?" Jess asked trying to get me focused and so that I wouldn’t waste the little time I had.

"Umm I don’t know. I’m not sure where we're going. I don’t know what type of clothes to wear" I was getting really nervous about this. "Ok Jenn call him and ask. Don’t worry it'll be ok" she said trying to make me relaxed. "Ok thanks Jess. We'll talk tomorrow. Ok?" I asked walking over to my closet. "Yeah ok. Enjoy! And don’t forget to tell me everything" she said. "Ok bye" I said and hung up. Time to call Aaron.
