It’s weird. My parents haven’t even tried to talk to me in five days. They couldn’t have forgotten about me.. right?

I was drawn from my thoughts when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I jumped back slightly before looking up and signing. "Sorry about that," I chuckled.

Janus shook their head, "You don't need to apologize for that. How are your hands?" I curled my fists, looking down at them.

"A little sore, but way better than before," I replied with a slight smile, uncurling my hands. My fingers looked almost normal and yeah, they ached a bit, but that's nothing.

"Do you think you can go to school for the last two days..?" They hesitantly asked.

My smile widened, "Yep! Uh… how has school been going?"

"Good. Though English has been evil."

"Pfffffffft English? Chemistry is the hardest class."

"That may be, but they aren't doing anything in it for the last week, plus they tried to do a refresher on weird words that no one can remember before the summer like this weird one ono-manto-peea," They squinted when I began laughing again.

"Onomatopoeia?"

"C'est le scélérat!" (*that’s the scoundrel)

"... Uh.. what?" They flushed and cleared their throat.

"I meant that's the word," they stated. I nodded, still smiling. They're such a dork, it's kinda adorkable. "Anyway uh.. you better get going if you're going to school" Oh yeah!

I hopped out of bed and changed before grabbing my bag. I looked to Janus, “Did anything big happen when I was gone?” They seemed to pause as if to contemplate what I asked.

“No, not really.”

“Okie dokie, I’ll see you after school?” They nodded.

I peaked out the door before walking out. Thankfully, my father already went to work and mother was probably still sleeping. Once I was outside, I looked up at the sky and took in a deep breath. It was a clear spring morning. The drops of dew on the leaves and grass still lingered and the flowers were barely blooming. The world seemed so peaceful. I smiled and twirled, feeling the light breeze tussle my hair as I giggled. Everything felt perfect.

A thought rushed through the back of my mind. I wish Janus was out here with me. They would really enjoy a morning like this. If I had the time I’d run back inside and grab them, but I knew I didn’t have long until school started. Sighing, I continued down the sidewalk, heading for the school building.

Okayyyyyy that’s kinda odd. I went to talk to Roman in the hallway but he quickly walked the other way. Then later I saw Virgil but he just silently glared at me. What happened while I was gone? Thank goodness next period is lunch.

I skipped down the hall towards the lunch room, thankful that my leg was feeling better. Logan packed up as soon as class was over and left without waiting. Did I do something to offend them?
