-a few hours later-

Do re mi fa so-

My phone ringtone interrupted the 6th grade choir's singing.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. It's my boyfriend's mom-" the choir teacher nodded, excusing me from the room to answer it in the hall. Why is Mrs. Caswell calling me?

I stepped out to the hall and answered, "hello?"
"Hey y/n." She sounded like she was crying, "um...ej was in a surfing accident."
"Oh my gosh! Is he okay??"
"No, not really. He's in the hospital. Apparently, he doesn't remember much. I'm hoping when he sees you...They called me because I was his emergency contact. I can't go because I live so far away, can you head to the hospital, please?"
"Yeah, yeah. Of course. I'll start heading out."
"Thank you y/n."
"No problem." I said as I hung up. I try not to cry. What if he doesn't remember me?

I ran back into the choir room, "I'm so sorry. I have to go Mrs. Parker. It's an emergency. Can I come back another day?"
"Yes, of course." Mrs. Parker replied, as some sixth graders sent me worried looks.
"Everything's going to be fine. I'll be back soon." I smiled at the sixth graders. Trying to reassure myself more than them. I grabbed my bag and headed out to my car.

As I drove to the hospital so many thoughts rushed through my head.

What's wrong?
Will he be okay?
Would this have happened if I was there?
I could've stopped this...
Does he remember me?

I love ej, and I don't know what I'd do if...if he didn't remember me.

I rushed to the counter where a nurse was standing.

"I'm here for Ej Caswell."
"He's in room 138."
"Thanks." I basically sprinted to ej's room.

I slowed down once I approached his room. Cautiously I opened the door, scared for the outcome.

"eej?" I said, coming into his room.
"Y/n!! Oh my gosh." He said, trying to get up.
"Hey, hey. Stay there." I smiled, going to his bed. Thank goodness. I sat in the chair next to his bed, "you okay?"
"Not really." He laughed. "I'm fine, I can't really remember a lot though. Like friends and stuff. The thing is I know I forgot them, but I can't remember them. I don't know what I would've done if I forgot you." He said, looking me in the eyes. I felt my eyes start watering, "are you okay?" He said.
"I'm okay. I just...wish I would've been there. I could've..."
"Y/n, don't say...stop." He said, cupping my face, "this is not your fault. You cannot take credit for this one, baby. Do not think for one more second we could've avoided this. It's my fault, you even warned me. Okay? It's not your fault." He sadly smiled at me.
I sniffed, "...okay. How did it happen ej?"
"I remember that I went out on the waves, even though the yellow flag was up. One just knocked me down, and I think I hit my head on the board. I swam back to shore, somehow. And then I told someone to call an ambulance and my mom. I think I blacked out after that."
"I'm so sorry I wasn't there ej."
"It's okay. I'm okay y/n."
"Are you sure?" I looked into his eyes.
He kissed my lips, "I'm absolutely sure. The doctor said that I'll be okay soon, I have a small concussion. It could've been much worse. I'm sorry I made you leave your shadowing."
"No, no. It's totally fine ej," I laughed a little, that was the least of our problems.
He leaned his forehead on mine, "I love you y/n."
"I love you too ej."

a/n: EJ seems like such a surfer guy. I LOVED WRITING THIS ONEEEEE
