I walked through the field towards the shed, the soft snow glistening in the sunlight. Its light pink hue complimenting the darker coniferous trees around it. I held the bowl of warm food tightly, trying not to drop it as I walked.

The shed was old, rickety. I stepped up to it, the crunch of snow under my shoes breaking the silence of the morning. I quietly opened the door, not wanting to bother Cubic too much. I looked around the shed, stepping onto its cold hardwood floor. Snow sparsely covered the entrance, powdering the floor. I stepped over to the small figure huddled far from the door, his body shivering slightly.

I bent down, getting a little close to him. He flinched, quickly looking to me. He stared before giving me a slight smile.

"Y/N?" He whispered under his breath.

"Hey C, I-I brought you some food." I smiled, setting it down on the floor near him. "How are you doing?"

He shifted slightly, pulling himself up a bit. "I-I'm fine..." he looked away from me, his form shivering a little.

"A-Are you sure?" I tilted my head, I couldn't help but feel a little concerned.

"Yeah... I'm sure..."

I set my hand on his back, his thin jacket feeling cold to the touch. He was probably freezing...

I looked away, sighing to myself before looking back at him. He stared at me, his gaze feeling like sunlight after a cold night. His eyes sparkled in the sunlight that peeked through the crack in the shed's door. They looked like dark opal, iridescent. He looked away quickly, his face tinting a deeper pink than usual.

"Oh, I-I think I'm gonna stop by the store for some things after I'm done with my shift." I looked to him, smiling, "Do you want me to grab you anything?"

"I-I don't-" he stared, before looking away, "I don't know... I don't really need anything..." his eyes stared out into the sunlight.

"Well, if I find anything you might need I'll pick it up for you on my way back, okay?"

He only nodded silently in response.

He scooted closer to me, almost pressing up against me as he ate the food I brought him. I looked away, out the door and to the forest.

"Hey, c-can I ask you something?" I kept staring.

"What?"

"W-What was your life like before... all of this. Before we met?" I looked back to him.

He froze, looking to the ground, "I haven't lived very long, so I couldn't tell you..." his hand rested on the back of his head as he looked away, a strange look in his eyes.

"Oh..." I looked away, "I-I'm sorry for bringing it up..."

"No, don't be." He touched my shoulder, causing me to look at him again. "It doesn't bother me." He smiled slightly.

I paused, taking off my jacket. The cold air nipped at me as all the warmth started to flow away. I handed it to Cubic, gaining a confused look from him in return.

"What- why are you-?"

"Here, you need it more than me right now anyways." I smiled, "You should use it until I come back."

"But I- no, you need it. It's cold out there... besides, what if you get sick, I don't want-" he looked away, unable to finish the statement.

"I won't, besides it isn't very cold anyways. I'll be fine." I sheepishly smiled.

"I- Thanks..." he looked down, his face still tinted deeper.

"Anytime!" I laughed nervously.

For a second, we sat there together. He smiled happily as he pulled the jacket closer to him. The fabric started to gain a pinkish hue, a pretty color. I watched him as he looked away, his smile feeling like the sun on a warm day. A part of me wanted to stay like this forever, his happy expression highlighting the moment.

I stood up, brushing myself off. Cubic looked at me, a confused look in his eyes. I smiled, pulling my backpack up on my shoulders.

"Don't worry, I'm just going to work. I'll be back." I smiled at him, softly.

"O-oh... okay..." he looked off, a slightly sad look on his face.

As I stepped out the door, I felt him watching me. I turned to smile at him one last time before shutting the door, its hinges creaking slightly.

—-------------------------------------

Cubic stared at the empty shed, the loneliness only highlighted by how quiet it was, the sounds of the wind keeping him company. He couldn't help but feel himself sigh, still thinking about Y/N. He just couldn't understand why they helped him in the first place.

A part of him couldn't complain.

He smiled, thinking of them. His eyes instinctively looked to the area they sat in previously. A pinch of worry when he saw how empty it looked without them.

He wondered why he cared so much, why he just wanted to be close to them.

He never felt this way, and it was scary,

And beautiful.

His face heated up, a small smile forming. He looked up, the sunlight peeking through the window and door. He stood up, the creaks of the floorboards grounding him to the earth, and yet a part of him felt weightless, like he was floating in clouds. He dusted himself off, looking to the window.

Cubic stepped towards it, striding across the empty room. He stared out for it, the cold from the window piercing his skin. He looked out of it, staring out into the woods. A small trail snakeing in between some trees. He knew where the path went, Y/N would take it to go to work. He stared at it, a part of him wanting to take it, wanting to follow them and make sure they're okay.

As he stared out into the woods, a strange feeling of dread overcame him. He looked around, the wind picking up and causing the trees to sway ever so slightly. As he stared into the treeline, he noticed something.

Two black eyes staring back at him.

He paused, backing up slightly. The figure seemed to notice him, perking up. He thought he could see a smile as the figure turned, going deep into the woods.

Fear wrapped its hands around his heart.

A part of him knew why they had come.

They were here for him.
