AN: Remember my headcanon about Rose being a Legilimens? This is where it applies.

Fun Fact: The original version of the fic paired Harry with Hermione and Ron with an OC (because that's the hill I was gonna die on). The OC in question was a Legilimens, which explained how Rose got that power. After I reverted the Potter-Gen pairings back to canon, I had to figure out some other way for Rose to still have this power. Thus, the story about Molly Weasley Sr.'s mother being able to read minds was born.

Anyway, enough vault stuff. Here's the scene.

Setting: Gryffindor Common Room (Next Day)

Trigger Warnings: N/A

James sits by the fire scrolling through his phone. That's what everyone has been doing lately since Hogwarts got access to Wifi. Lily enters from the Girls' dormitories.

James: There you are! I didn't hear from you at all last night. Where were you?

Lily (confidently, as if rehearsed): I was in my dorm, hanging out with Rose.

Lily's cousin, Fifth-year student, Rose Granger-Weasley, enters.

James: Were you rolling with Lily last night, Rose?

Lily looks at Rose, hoping she will say yes as if she says no, she and Scorpius will be exposed. Fortunately, Rose uses her legilimens powers to read Lily's mind.

Rose: Yeah, we were hanging out in the dormitories last night.

James: Oh, ok. Louis and I got bored and dragged Albus down in the Chamber of Secrets last night. When we first got down there, we heard some pretty clapped music, two people laughing... I heard a girl say that she's never been that happy in her whole life, and the guy sounded a lot like Scorpius Malfoy... The girl sounded an awful lot like you, Lily, that's why I wanted to know where you were last night.

Louis enters as Lily starts her line.

Lily (jokingly): What? You think I'd get in a relationship and not tell my older brother about it?

James: Oh, no, definitely not. I know you'd say if you were - Well, unless it was a yute like Scorpius - It's just that your only fourteen, so I'd expect you wouldn't be-

Rose (understanding the assignment): And why does that make a difference? I started dating Liam Finnigan when I was in the same year as her!

James & Louis (surprised): You're dating Liam Finnigan?

James (to Louis, just noticing him): Wagwhan, Louis.

Louis: Wagwhan, bruv.

Rose: Yeah, we've just been keeping it a secret. I think it was only our immediate families and Lily that knew before.

James: Rahh, well, good on you then. Either way, Liam's not - to exaggerate - the "opps", perse, that's why I don't care about you two being together. But Lily, you're my sister and... I just don't want anyone taking advantage of you...

Lily (sticking up for herself like the queen she is): No one's going to take advantage of me, James. And besides, why would it make a difference if I was dating Scorpius? Albus is his best friend and you don't seem to care.

James (getting slightly defensive): Don't you remember? Our family has declared the Malfoys as our rivals-

Lily: James, they're not our rivals! Dad and Mr. Malfoy just had a bit of a falling out. Mum's being chill about the whole feud thing. Why can't you?

James: Because I'm just like that, Lily! And, for the record, I think they only let Scorpius and Albus remain friends because of everything they've been through together still. If you ended up with Scorpius, We'd be the bare in-laws of the Malfoys, making us EVERYTHING we've tried not to be. You have to understand, fam, I REALLY don't want to be related to those geezers.

Louis: To be fair to James, he's bare convinced that Scorpius is Voldie's son still, so, like-

Rose: Not helping, Louis!

James: No, Rose, he is helping! (to Lily) On the off chance that Scorpius is Voldie's son, YOU, Lily, would be in bare danger. Your kids wouldn't be able to love, fam! Do you really want that?!

Lily (giving up): Yeah, no, of course, I wouldn't... Anyway, I've got to go to breakfast before I lose brain cells because of this conversation.

Lily runs out of the common room (Exits). Rose follows her. James and Louis watch them leave, a puzzled expression on both their faces - James' being real, and Louis' being a facade. Louis knows what's going on. Yet, he says nothing.
