LAUREN'S POV
Since Meshie, Denise, and Roxie weren't here yet, I had no choice but to talk to him. It was so boring. I faced him and started a conversation.
"Calix."
"Oh?"
"About earlier, it was just a joke, okay?"
"Okay, if you say so."
"It was just a joke, okay?"
"Yeah, I got it."
"Why do you seem like you don't believe me?"
"Huh? I believe you."
"Because your answers seem forced."
"Hmm, they're not."
"There you go again, why are you like that?"
"Huh? What's wrong with my answer? I'm not forcing anything, just a bit unsure."
"You're so confusing. You say you're not forcing it, but you also said you're just a bit unsure. What is it really?"
"Your friend said you had a crush on me, then you take it back."
"It's just a joke.I only had a crush on you before, why do you seem angry?"
"You had a crush on me before?"
"Yeah, haha. But you had a crush on someone else."
"Who?"
"Why are you asking me? Anyway, remember back in grade 2?"
"No, what about it?"
"You had a crush on Stacey then, and in grade 3, Roxie was your crush, haha. She's the one who called you earlier."
"How did you know I had a crush on them?"
"Well, you were always talking to and hanging out with them."
"Oh, haha, okay."
As we were talking, Denise, Meshie, and Roxie arrived and sat down. Roxie asked,
"Hi, Lauren. Hi, Calix. What were you guys talking about?"
"Uh, we were just—"
I didn't let Calix finish; I answered Roxie instead. I think he was embarrassed because he still has a crush on her.
"I was telling Calix who his crushes were before. I don't think he remembers."
"Ah, okay. So who were his crushes?"
I didn't answer Roxie's question because our teacher arrived.
