"CARINA ELAYNE TOUSSAINT"
"SLYTHERIN WINS!" Lily's voice boomed through the pitch.
Maria was already tugging me through the crowd, pulling us towards one of the staircases.
"Would you slow down!" I yelled at her over all the noise.
"What if he's dead!" she exclaimed back.
"Nothing could kill that one." I muttered to myself.
"UGH, MOVE OVER!" Maria yelled at some third years who were blocking our way.
"Sorry about her." I told them as we passed, still being tugged along by Maria.
After a long way down from the stands and way too many hurried steps, we made it onto the field where there was already a crowd formed around Regulus. The Matron was rushing in his direction as we approached, Maria still holding onto me as she moved us along in a hurried pace.
"Out of my way!" I heard Pomfrey yell.
Evan was crouched down on his knees beside his idiot of a best friend who appeared to be unconscious. James and Sirius were standing behind him, both carrying worried expressions. I didn't pay much more attention to whoever else was around Regulus, I was honestly starting to panic a little from seeing his unconscious body laying there.
Even after our little debacle yesterday and me being slightly annoyed with him, I wasn't heartless. Of course I of all people would care about his well-being.
Leaving Maria behind me, I pushed past some scattered players, reaching directly where Pomfrey was about to check on Regulus. Now crouched down on my knees the same way that Evan was sitting, opposite of Madam Pomfrey on Regulus's right, I gulped nervously watching the matron lift her wand parallel to his spine and close her eyes.
She was scanning him for major injuries or bleeding. I waited a moment for her to check him before speaking.
"How is he?" I asked her in a hushed tone.
She paused when I spoke and turned her head in my direction. "Toussaint, good, scoot closer to him." she instructed, surprising me.
Granted, that week I had spent with her in the Hospital Wing had been majorly useful for me as a future healer. Poppy and I talked a great deal and once she had learned about my ambitions in healing, she took me under her wing.
Well, demanded, more like, that I start coming to her for some extra, private lessons. She'd told me she saw great potential in me.
It felt a little unfair, to be honest. For me to be given extra knowledge and attention like this.
Nonetheless, practicing spells, doing minor checks and healing other students has really helped me get a feel for the field.
"What?" I blinked at her in question.
"This'll be good practice for you. Come on." she replied simply.
I hesitated. "I- I don't think I'm-"
"Hurry up, he could be dying and you're stalling. What's the first thing you do?" Pomfrey demanded, not having any patience for my reluctance.
"Are you trying to kill our Seeker?" some Slytherin commented from behind us.
