                          〖 THE SONTARAN STRATAGEM

THE IDEA OF Donna Noble at the helm of the TARDIS controls shouldn't have been a terrifying as it was currently unfolding to be.

Valarie clutched the railing behind her tightly, her knuckles turning white. The TARDIS has lurched so many times, and she feared if it did another strong one she would puke. Donna, on the other end, was over the moon.

"I can't believe I'm doing this!" She cried out in joy, hands working at the controls as he had pointed them out.

"No, neither can I." The Doctor mumbled in response, watching the monitor closely as she worked at the small section of controls.

"How come you never taught me?" Valarie asked.

"You never asked." He responded simply. Fair enough, Valarie thought. He leaned forward before quickly moving into Donna's way.

"Oh, careful!" He warned. He grabbed a rubber mallet, one she had watched him use many times, and watched him smack it against the console before he activated a control. He backed up, allowing Donna reign again as he now gripped the mallet to him tightly.

"Left hand down! Left hand down!" He suddenly commanded. Donna obeyed, and the TARDIS lurched. Valarie slid forward, being caught by his arm he threw out quickly. She tightly gripped it, suddenly straining to hold back bile.

"Getting a bit too close to the nineteen-eighties!" He warned.

"What am I gonna do?" Donna retorted. "Put a dent in 'em?"

"Well, someone did." He replied quietly before looking at Valarie, who clung to his arm with her face pressed against it. She was developing a awful shade of green.

"You alright?" He asked. She swallowed harshly and simply rolled her eyes up to him.

"Just peachy." She replied.

The sound of a ringing mobile bounced off the console room walls. Eyes turned to the source. It couldn't have been Valarie's, which was rested neatly in her jacket pocket on the seat nearby. Donna looked surprised to even hear it, while concern immediately was evident on the Doctor's face.

"Hold on. That's a phone!" Donna announced as the Doctor fished a mobile free from the console. Valarie immediately recognized it as the one Martha had given him before she left. It felt like so much time had passed since then, but Valarie was unsure of actually how long. That's how living this way was - you lost time completely. Valarie could've been a whole year older and wouldn't have even realized it.

"You've got a mobile?" Donna asked. "Since when?"

"It's not mine." The Doctor replied before answering it and holding it to his ear.

"Hello?" He asked.

"Doctor?" Valarie could faintly hear the voice, due to being in such close proximity. "It's Martha!"

His eyes turned to Valarie. Her eyebrows raised.

"I'm bringing you back to Earth!" She announced to him.

Seeing Martha again was a breath of fresh air for Valarie. When they left the TARDIS in the alleyway, there was no time before Valarie gently shoved past him and ran towards Martha. The two women caught each other in a tight hug. Valarie had missed her so deeply, and often wondered what she would've thought of what became of her and him after she left.

"Martha Jones!" The Doctor exclaimed, hugging her once Valarie released.

"You haven't changed a bit!"

"Neither have you two." Martha smiled. Donna trailed behind, hesitant to interrupt the Rey union.

"How's the family?" He asked her.

"You know, not so bad. Recovering." She sighed. She turned her head to Valarie.

"How are you?" She asked.

"Oh, great." Valarie sighed.

"And that thing, we talked about?" Martha asked, referring to her parting words to Valarie. Valarie only smiled in response, her cheeks flushing. The Doctor's head turned to each of them, back and forth.

"Thing? What thing?" He asked, genuinely lost. Valarie only shook her head and laughed to herself. Martha took notice of Donna approaching.

"Right. Should've known. Didn't take you long to replace me then."

"Now, don't start fighting." He warned. "Martha, Donna. Donna, Martha. Please don't fight, can't bear fighting."

"You wish." Donna scoffed, shaking Martha's hand.

"I've heard all about you. He talks about you all the time."

"I dread to think." Martha laughed,

"No, no, no. He says nice things. Good things. Really, good things." Donna affirmed. Her eyes fluttered down to Martha's hand which she promptly brought closer up. Valarie leaned in as well, blocking the Doctor's view out.

"Martha!" Valarie gawked. "Why didn't you call me! Whose the lucky man?" She asked.

"What man? Lucky what?" The Doctor asked. The two parted as Donna pointed to her hand.

"She's engaged, you prawn." Martha waved her hand, showing off the engagement ring.

"Really, to who?" He asked, coming closer to look at it better.

"Tom Milligan. That Tom Milligan." Valarie was only partially familiar with Tom. He was the man Martha had traveled the Earth with during that year, the year that never was. "He's in pediatrics. Working out in Africa right now, and yes, I know. I've got a doctor who disappears off to distant places. Tell me about it." Valarie huffed, trying to conceal a laugh. It was met with his eyes turning to her. She held a hand up to her mouth, trying to hide the smile as she refused to look at him.

"Is he skinny?" Donna asked.

"No, he's sort of, strong."

"He is too skinny for words!" Donna gestured to the Doctor. "You give him a hug, you get a paper cut!" Valarie couldn't contain herself then, letting a small laugh out she quickly bottled up again.

"Oh, I'd rather you were fighting now."

"Speaking of which..."Martha reached down to a belt she wore, pulling a walkie-talkie up to her mouth. A voice spoke over it.

"Dr.Jones, report to base please. Over." Someone over it said.

"This is Dr.Jones. Operation Blue Sky is go, go, go. I repeat, this is a go." As soon as the last syllable left her lips, conveys of soldiers and cars descended on them. For a second, Valarie felt startled and found herself clutching at his arm tightly. Her mind zapped back to Saxon, watching his conveys taking their families. She shook the memory, having to remind herself this was Martha.

Martha wouldn't hurt them.

Long time no see. Life happens! In other news I am a teacher now. Crazy how I started this fic as a high school sophomore and now I am a graduated teacher. Here's a short chapter.

Anticipate some heavy editing to correct some issues in especially early chapters regarding grammar and incorrect wording (an American trying to mimic British slang, be patient lol). Surprisingly in my time away I have not quit writing fics.

Wrote some more for this, wrote for some other series, mainly played around with a Game of Thrones one after getting crazy into the show and books after my boyfriend showed me it a year ago. Maybe it'll be up soon, if anyone would be interested in reading that?

Also! I'm over on tumblr. My user is bbeemore and I am much more active on there! I post blurbs for other things and will most likely be reuploading Oddity to there as well!

Have a great day!
