Just so y'all know, I'm returning to Freaks after the next chapter.

And then when that's done

I CONTINUE :D

Doc and Joe are waiting for us when we leave the nether. Neither of us have anything physical to show for it, the only thing we share is the knowledge of the new people we saw, and the fact that we're going to go to the Watcher Lands and no, it's not debatable. Luckily, Doc doesn't need convincing.

'How well does redstone work there?' He instantly asks. 'If I can get some TNT and make some cannons, I can distract while you three go in. And hopefully I can kill some of them too.'

'Watchers don't... die. Some part of their magic makes them immortal to most things.'

'Luckily, I have access to some of those other things.' A sword appears in Scar's hand,  glowing faintly blue. Impressed, I cross my arms.

'That's... unexpected. Since when could you do that.'

'Ages. Xisuma said we couldn't use them at all, but... since he's not here.'

'Yeah. We'll need all the strength we can get... you know if wizard magic works too?'

'It works well enough.' Scar shrugs. 'Not perfect, but nothing is.'

'Joe, you got any weird powers no one knows about too?' I turn to the fourth member of our group, who's been quiet the whole time.

'No... maybe it would be better if I stayed behind. In case those people in the nether show up at all, or anyone else.'

'Three people against all the Watchers won't do much.' I frown back.

'Four people won't make much of a difference either then! I don't... I think it's a bad idea.'

'Our friends have been taken, Joe. And you just want to sit back here and do nothing?' Doc steps towards Joe, still limping from his injuries.

'I want to stay safe... and espionage won't work as well if there are three of us and one of them is Scar.'

'Scar's not the problem here!' I retort. 'Besides, I'll be there to stop him from being stupid if anything happens.'

'Like you're not going to get attacked by everyone in there... right.'

I let out a half-sigh, half-growl.

'I'm not arguing with you about this, Joe. We need all the help we can get. And you're able to help.'

'I'm sorry, I need to defend the base.'

'Fine. But I'm blaming you if anything happens.' Preferring to cut the argument short, I step away. 'Scar, Doc, we'll need to gather everything we can into one shulker box each. I know the place inside out, so I can draw up a map, and we can properly plan it out. (This would be a good time to have more of the Watcher Lands made in Minecraft...) Doc, Scar, grab supplies and, meet in my tent in half an hour.

They both do, running of their own ways as I return to my tent. I snatch up some paper, beginning to draw out a map of the Watcher lands... luckily we'll only need to see the ground floor, since I doubt Watchers keep real prisoners inside their sacred towers.

Other than me.

I shake away the thoughts, continuing. Training area, schooling area, surrounding walls as defences and the central building... it's as fresh now as it all 4 years ago. The front entrance was the only way in, but from there we'll have options to-

'Grian?'

Scar's voice shocks me out of my work. He bites his lip as he stand in the entrance.

'Come in?'

He does, opening his mouth, then closing. And opening again, finally speaking.

'Are you alright with going tomorrow?'

'What?'

'To the Watcher Lands.'

'You'll need someone to guide you around. And I know the layout.'

'Yeah but... Scar hesitates. 'I know you have a history with the Watchers. And this will be hard for you. Maybe it's better if me, Doc and Joe go, and you stay here.'

'Joe doesn't know his way around there! And neither do you, Scar. You... you need me to help you.' I curse loudly as I tear through my half completed map in an attempt to draw another line, slamming the quill down on the table. I stop, sitting down as the world blurs in front of me.

'Grian, we can wait.'  Scar's hand rests on mine as I blink away tears. 'We don't need to go if you're still... getting over the Watchers. See if we can find some more hermits, and do this all later.'

'What about Cub? And Ren. And everyone else I'm failing because I'm too scared to face a couple of Watchers and what I should've gotten over by now.'

Scar sits next to me. I look over at him, swallowing as I force my emotions down.

'There's never a right time to get over something. I can wait.' He blinks, trying to stay looking at me as his vision wanders. 'I... can wait.'

'We're going tomorrow. Me you and Doc, like we planned. And I'm getting my stupid fears and helping.'

'You don't...'

'I do.' I look Scar in the eyes as I speak. He nods back, understanding.

'Alright.' Again, he wants to keep speaking, staring at the ruined map in front of us. I get up, finding another large sheet to restart my job, tracing over what I'd done before, remembering what's inside each of the rooms I've been in, where the prisoners would be kept, marking it with a large cross.

'Grian?'

'Yeah?'

'You're the bravest person I know.'

'Funny you should say that...' I dare a small smirk. 'Because you're the bravest person I know. And don't try to argue with me.' Scar closes his mouth quickly. 'Because I'm not changing my mind.'

'What if I don't believe you?'

'Then you're wrong.'

My sudden response clearly surprises Scar and I laugh at his expression.

'In all my life...'

'You've never been told you're wrong before?! Oh my goodness, Scar. Someone needs to lower that ego by a few notches.'

And again, we're both laughing, even continuing as Doc appears, holding a shulker box in both hands.

'If you weren't my second best friend, I'd give you some choice words right now, Grian.'

'Second best?!'

'Yes.'

For the second time in 2 minutes, one of us is left speechless, and this time it isn't Scar.

'Stop arguing, lovebirds.' Jokes Doc, breaking up our 'discussion'. 'We've got a escape mission to plan.'
