You run out the front gates of your home.

Elaranya and Indilwen, your sister in laws, join you. Curufin and Amras rush to meet the party of elves. You see red hair spilling over the edge of the stretcher being carried between two horses.

"Maedhros!" You cry as they lift him. Fingon dismounts, "Angband, they tortured him."

Your husband was still and lifeless. Despite him being eight feet tall he looked like a small elfling.

His skin is clammy to the touch and he has a scar running down his neck. You lean over after holding your hair back and kiss his cheek. He flinches but doesn't make a sound.

They carry him into the house.

"Bring him to our quarters, he will feel safer," You say.

The guards lift your limp husband onto your bed. You gasp slightly when you see the blood-drenched bandages over the flat end of his arm.

Fingon puts a hand on your shoulder, "I should have warned you. They had him hung by his wrist. The only way I could get him down was cutting it off."

You want to cry but you don't. "It doesn't change how much I love him."

It didn't.

Maglor walks in with a tray. On it are bowls of water and cloths with ointments.

"Here, I thought you should tend him." He smiles.

You nod. You removed Maedhros's shirt and wipe the dried blood off his skin. After wiping his cuts with oils and alcohol you start on his face.

His eyes flash open. He jumps and tries to get up.

"Mattie, It's me!" You gently push him down.

"No-" He gasps.

You rub your fingers down his jaw gently, "It's me. Y/n."

Maedhros looks over at you, "Y/n?"

You nod, "Yes my love. It's me."

He exhales.

You kiss his forehead, "I was so worried about you."

He frowns, "You're alright?"

You chuckle. Typical him, worrying about anyone except himself.

"Mattie I'm fine."

He smiled, "Mattie, I missed that."

You kiss his cheek. "I need to clean your arm."

He frowns after moving his arm from under the blanket, "I-"

You press your finger to his lips, "Hush, no."

He breaks into sobs, "I'm sorry."

You hug him, "Oh my sweet boy, it's alright."

Maedhros clings to you with his left arm. "I know what you must think of me."

"No Maedhros, that is not true."

He falls back into his pillows, "I didn't expect to see you upon my return. I thought you would find someone else. Now I wish you had."

You frown, "Maedhros, I will only ever love you. I gave you my heart and I will not take it back!"

He winces, "I am handicapped. You need someone else."

"Maedhros, Don't talk like that!"

Mattie stares down at his lap.

You realize how much yelling he endured.

"Oh hon, I am sorry."

He hands over his arm so you can unwrap the wound.

You breathe through your teeth after seeing all the blood and mangled flesh.

You wipe away the dried blood and fluid with a warm cloth. Maedhros flinching every time you touch it.

"This is going to hurt," You warn as your pour alcohol on a cloth.

He leans back against the pillows, "I've learned to endure pain."

That sentence stabs you through the heart like an arrow.

You wrap the wound in a clean cloth and give him some syrup for the pain.

Maedhros ate like he hadn't in decades.

You sit down on the bed next to him, "You scared me."

He frowns, "I know. I'm sorry."

"I thought you weren't coming back."

"I'll always come back to you."

You get up, "I should let you sleep."

"I would sleep better if my wife was laying with me."

He scooches over to make room for you.

You smile and climb under the blankets with him. He extends his good arm to you, "Why so far?"

You giggle and snuggle into his side.

The door opens and you both jump.

Caranthir jumped back, "Oh sorry guys, I didn't realize you were-"

You laugh, "It's alright. You didn't walk in on anything."

Maedhros rolled his eyes, "Cara, get out of here. I haven't seen my wife in three decades."

Caranthir scoots back towards the door, "Right, I'm glad you're home brother."

Mattie smiles, "Me too, Wasn't sure I'd see this place again."

Caranthir leaves and you sigh.

"They didn't intrude on you while I was gone? If they saw you I will skin them all."

You laugh, "No Mattie, They were very helpful."

Maedhros pulls you back to his side, "Stay with me." His voice cracks.

You smooth his hair, "Of course, forever and always my love."

He cries into your chest, "I was so scared."

"I know you were, and that's okay."

He shutters, "I love you."

"I love my red warrior."
