chapter twenty

After many snowball fights and hot chocolates, the girls were now back in their room getting ready for the Yule Ball. The floor was covered in all sorts of makeup products and hair accessories.

Amy was just finishing pinning her hair back to form a brain joining at the back of her head while the rest of her hair falls down in light waved curls. Her makeup was complete. It was quite simple but the shimmery, silver eyeshadow, which matched the band of the dress, added a more elegant touch.

Iris was in the bathroom, sitting on the counter whilst she finished her mascara. Her dress was dark blue with a leaf-like pattern dripping down it. It was floor length and flowed gracefully. Her hair was also curled but the top half was pulled back into a low ponytail and there were two strands that she had pulled out at the front to frame her face.

"I heard that Parkinson is going with Malfoy" Iris said, not taking her eyes off her own reflection.

"That's gonna go well" Amy said as she put in the last hair pin.

Amy checked the time and saw that it read 7:58

"Shit" she said as she stood up, "we're late"

"Good" Iris replied as she was putting a necklace on.

"That means we have to go" Amy said, "come on the boys will be waiting for us."

Eventually Iris took one last look at herself in the mirror then followed after Amy out of the room.

The Entrance Hall was packed with students, all milling around waiting for eight o'clock, when the doors to the Great Hall would be thrown open. Those people who were meeting partners from different houses were edging through the crowd, trying to find each other.

"There they are" Iris said as they walked down the stairs.

Amy followed her eye line and saw their boys right in the middle of the Hall. They were standing in a circle talking and bantering with each other. They all were wearing similar suits, with white shirts and black bottoms.

Amy couldn't help but look at Theo. She had seen him at formal events before but this was different as they were actually happy and not dragged there by their parents.

Enzo suddenly noticed the girls and smiled to the boys and indicated to them at the bottom of the stairs making their way through the crowd.

Theo turned round and it was like the room went silent. Everyone and Everything around him became a blur. All he could focus on was the girl walking towards him. But then he remembered, that she wasn't his date and someone else gets to dance with her all night.

"Ladies" Blaise said once the girls approached them

"You guys clean up nice" Iris said to them

For a split second, it looked as though Mattheo was going to compliment the girl, then he lightly shook his head and spoke up. "Diggory is looking for you" he said avoiding eye contact with her.

Iris looked slightly disappointed. "Oh...yeah I should go....I'll see you guys in there." She turned around and walked into the crowd looking for the champion.

"Sooo" Blaise started, "who's everyone's date then?"

Enzo then turned round and indicated for someone to come over.

Amy was very surprised by who approached them.

"Hello everyone" said the delicate voice of Luna Lovegood.
