The Volturi Coven had resided in Volterra for many centuries, the Kings had taken their guards to fight or inspect other Covens; especially the peculiar Olympic Coven. The Romanians had been defeated, or at least that was what the Volturi knew of. The Throne Room was home to the many trials that were ran during the day.
At the back of the Throne Room were some thrones, Marcus's, Caius's and Aro's. But there was still an empty throne. When Mary Alice Brandon (Alice Cullen) came to them in search of a Coven, she told them of their mate and in exchange they let her live a Vegetarian lifestyle with the Cullens. She told them they would all share a mate. There was a final throne that belonged to them, this throne sat on a podium behind Aro's throne. It was there as it wouldn't be unfair to anyone, and their mate would still be in the centre and be able to see all.
