Elf Master Eldarion took the ruby without asking too much, although it was clear to him that the ruby could not be theirs. On the way back Kobold John and Pixie Dwight came across two huge hippalectryons, half-horses and half-roosters. They were the hippalectryons of Necromancer Panglotter, disciple of Wizard Stardestroyer. The great scholar Necromancer Panglotter had succeeded in using highly refined divination to summon the two mythological hybrids.
