CHAPTER 46: He Is Someone's Heir

"Are you having your period? Being too emotional over a patient's death is not you. Maiintindihan ko pa si Kara. Given na ang pagiging iyakin sa kanya. Pero ikaw...I doubt if si Simon at Daphne ang iniiyakan mo. Tell me...why are you crying?" Si Ace na nasa kabilang linya.

"Do you think...I did not delay Simon's treatment? Maybe I should have follow my senior's order to prepare him for OR? Siguro...buhay pa-"

"Simon's death is not your fault. It is his time. What happened in ER can happen in that OR table too. The moment you cut him, he'll arrest in no time. You did not delay it, inaral mo lang ng mabuti. If he did not cough out blood, he will not have a hint that he'll die soon. Hindi niya ibibigay sayo ang singsing para sa girlfriend niya." Putol ni Ace kay Missy.

Pero hindi pa din ito mapalagay. Hindi ito makapagsalita, nag-iisip kung may ginawa ba siyang mali para mapadali ang buhay ni Simon. She could not get over Daphne and Simon's story. Their unhappy ending.

"I knew someone who can be clinically dead, yet manage to live. You will not believe his case, Missy. I think he's a superhuman. Hindi ata siya tao, he is someone with superpowers." Ace is trying to comfort her with a story he just found out when his father forgot to log out his bestcare account on his laptop.

"Pwede ba kuya? Huwag mo na nga akong ginogoyo. Kaya ko to...I will be okay. I have three cases left. Sige na, I need to-"

"Patient X, a twenty seven year old male patient who suffered from a traumatic vehicular accident. His car fell from a twelve feet cliff. Alam mo kung gaano kataas yun? Para kang tumalon sa five storey building." Ace cut her off again.

"Patient X? Bakit patient X? Ano yan si Wolverine? Superhuman? Member ba siya ng X-men?" Tumatawang sabi ni Missy sa kwento ni Ace sa kanya. Alam niyang sinusubukan lang siya nitong patawanin.

"Tapos ano? After that accident para lang walang nangyari sa kanya? Then he's a superhuman. Anong teleserye yan? Since when did you start to be a fan of those cliche movies? Tell me the title, papanoorin-"

"His name is patient X because he is a highly classified one. AMC used to do that with those patients who chose to be treated in private. Alam mo na, people who is trying to hide from media. Big and influential politicians. Artists and other famous personalities. His case is extraordinary. Siguro, hindi pa talaga niya panahon. Or maybe, he chose to live and fought for someone. That part, yun ang parang teleserye. He is in a marrying age...baka may fiance siya."

Natawa si Ace sa huli niyang sinabi. He randomly thought about that. Ni hindi nga niya alam ang sex preference ng taong iyon. Hindi lang talaga niya mapigilang basahin ang case na iyon. Isa pa, he is curios why his father is following that patient's case. He even save his medical record number. Binasa niya ang halos tatlong buwan na pamamalagi nito sa ospital hanggang sa ma-discharge ito.

"Highly classified patient?" Kumunot ang noo ni Melissa.

"Are you curios? I will give his medical record number. Sinasabi ko sayo, you will be amaze. He is a man who manage to escape death. You will be fascinated how he survived four major operations. How he started to walk and be normal despite of that traumatic accident." Ace chuckled. Wala na sa boses ni Melissa ang lungkot. Bumenta sa kapatid niya ang kwentong iyon. It's unethical to read patient's file. Pero hindi niya napigilan ang sarili na basahin iyon.

"And do you know what's interesting? That patient was transferred in AMC Michigan. Whoever he is, nagtatago talaga siya sa media. He's either a well known actor or a son of a super tycoon in Philippines. Pero kung sikat siyang artista, why would they hide his identity in the public? I have a strong feeling that...he is someone's heir and their family business relies on his life. You know, personal things can affect the price of stocks in the market." Ace concluded upon reading a blind item on the newspaper his father was reading yesterday. The anonymous journalist wrote about how an elite member of the society managed to hid the tragic accident of their only heir.
