Helaena and Daella were escorted to the Dragonpit atop the Hill of Rhaenys in the royal carriage, with Daella curiously staring out of the small window to the streets of Kingslanding. She was not allowed to wander out of the castle for her own safety, as the Queen had put it, and so it happened that Daella had travelled all the way from the Eyrie to Kingslanding and yet not seen much. She was glad that Helaena had taken a liking to her as well, because otherwise, the days in Kingslanding would have been lengthy and dull.

As soon as the carriage came to a stop, Daella followed Helaena out of the structure and into the Dragonpit, of which she had read much and admired drawings, but had never seen in real life. A soft gasp escaped her mouth as she took in the size of the enormous dome overhead, lined with so many benches that thousands could sit, and covered with bronze and iron details depicting scenes from Old Valyria. The gates they walked through were big enough for at least thirty knights to ride through at once and while Daella turned a circle around her own axis to take in the grandness of everything, Helaena nodded kindly to one of the Shepherds.

They took a side entry and walked down a couple of stairs, Daella feeling positively excited at the prospect of seeing a dragon for the first time. They reached a sandpit even bigger than the dome above and which showed forty sets of iron doors, each of them leading to their own manmade cave, though not every single one housed a dragon. Letting out a breathless chuckle, Daella stared at Helaena in admiration. "How do you even remember which dragon resides where?"

"Oh, it is quite easy actually," Helaena said, heading for one of the doors. "They are sorted by size, so closest to the door is Vhagar, Aemond's dragon, and next to her is the great old Vermithor. He is held together with Silverwing, his companion and next to them is Dreamfyre, my beloved."

Daella's eyes lingered on the rest of the doors, filled with smaller dragons, and for a moment she imagined herself, heading into one of the caves and claiming a dragon for herself. She hated that Aemond had already claimed the biggest of them, for she would have loved to see the look on his face if she had succeeded in taking a dragon greater than his. She could already imagine it, the frustrated twitch of the muscle in his cheek, the blank expression on his face and his eye ablaze with anger.

"Will you help me?" Helaena suddenly called out, sounding heavily out of breath.

Effectively snapped out of her thoughts, Daella looked up to see the other woman hanging on one of the iron door handles of the third set of doors, not quite managing to get it open. Letting out a loud chuckle, Daella ran in the direction of her companion and wrapped her hands around the small opening in between the doors. Hanging her weight on it and pulling as well, the massive door finally slid open, revealing a dark cave.
