An icy wind lashed against my skin, blowing my hair around my face as the bitter chill in the air kissed my cheeks. Puffs of white mist escaped my lips with every exhale as I managed to keep up with Dante's hurried pace as we raced to the idling SUV on the desolate tarmac.

"I hate the cold," Dante shivered through chattered teeth. He was in dark blue jeans, a green tee, and a brown leather jacket. It didn't look like he was very warm with the rips in the knees of his pants and the thin material of his shirt. At least I was wearing layers and fleece-lined leggings and boots. Dante's hand was warm against mine and my other hand was safely tucked into my sleeve inside my hoodie pocket.

The passenger door opened and a man that looked remarkably like Cobra Bubbles hopped out and opened the back door for us. Dante picked me up around my waist and lifted me onto the side.

Why are all of the trucks and SUVs so high off the ground?

I'm not saying I'm short, but sometimes being small was a curse.

I slid over on the bench seat so Dante could get in and sit. The inside of the SUV was designed differently than the other ones I've been in. There was a wall that separated the front seats from the rest of the vehicle. A square window was cut into the middle that had a little door that was slid open. The row of seats that sat against the separation faced the row of seats Dante and I currently occupied. narrow side tables were tucked under the windows on either side of us with brown cardboard boxes with matching paper bags piled on top.

My eyes met Ace's, who dipped his chin in greeting and I waved my fingers back at him. I switched my focus on the man sitting beside him, Declan gave me a small smile before he picked up the two smallest brown bags and a white cup from a carrier sitting between him and Ace and offered them to me. I reached out and accepted them, giving him a small, "Thank you."
