I felt a small smile rise to my lips. It's been a while since I've bantered with someone. And it's been a while since I smiled genuinely.

We texted for a bit until I ordered my food and it arrived. It was a vegan burger.

I really wanted to laugh. To talk about how he was so stupid for thinking it would work.

But that stupid voice in my head. The doubt clouding my mind. It was screaming at me, that maybe I was overreacting. Maybe he just tapped me and I believed he hit me. That he would never hit me. That he loved me as much as I loved him. That he cares for me.

But he hit me. Multiple times.

But he always apologized, he always treated me right after.
