Chapter Text
Owlet Luz chasing mice: "-SCREEEEE-"

Eda: "IT'S 4am, WHO THE FU-"

Oswald: "Where are THE FUCKING NAIL FILERS AND CLIPPERS!?"

King: "Who ate the chess pieces?"

____________

Gus sat in front of his locker, head buried in his hands. "Hey, Gus. You okay?" Luz asked gently.

"I-I messed up bad, Luz. Willow just needed help with this pixie problem, right? So I thought, oh, that I'll lure them away with an illusion. But then..."

"You angered the pixies and made them attack Willow instead," finished king.

"I moved up two grades. What's the point of being good at this if I can't do anything good with it?"

"It was an honest mistake," reassured Luz. "Besides, Willow's tough as nails. I'm sure you'll both be feeling better tomorrow."

________

The next day, Gus didn't feel better. He groaned in disappointment as he lied down on the floor of his bedroom. His crystal ball buzzed and played a prerecorded message. King's voice rang out, "I'm not reading this."

He heard his own voice say, "Come on, King. Please?"

King groaned and said, "Ugh, fine. Is that a six-footed pig or a floating appendage? Why, no! It's Gus the Illusion Master. Please leave a message."

The crystal ball beeped and Willow's image appeared. She was lying in bed and wearing an arm cast. "Hey, Gus. Thanks for sending me all those "Get well soon" illusions but, uh..." Three little Gus' appeared and asked if she was feeling okay, one even sang her a song. "Can you please take them back?"

Gus groaned and shut off the crystal ball. He traced a spell circle and the little illusions appeared before him. They asked him if they did a good job, but he ignored them and cancelled the spell. He lied back down and closed his eyes only to hear a knock at the front door.

Gus opened the door to find Luz and king standing there. "Gustopher! Gusteban! Augustabeth! Any of those working for you?"

Gus frowned at her. "You need my library card to visit Amity, don't you?"

Luz's cheeks turned pink. "I haven't been doing a good job of hiding that, huh?"

King folded his arms and made a sassy, "Mmm-hmm." He turned to Gus. "But aside from that, we're doing some research and you're coming with us." He grabbed Gus by the arm and dragged him out of the house.

As they walked down the streets of Bonesborough, Luz explained, "So, Eda's mom told me I'm not the first human to have lived in Bonesborough. In fact, My dad's family is the second to come here recently!" Gus gave her a look of surprise.

"So since that lead led nowhere, there might be some info on how they got here in the library!"

"Yeah, okay. Looking through old newspapers is about all I'm good for anyway," Gus said sadly.

King raised an eyebrow. "Hey, what's eating you?"

"Nothing's eating me. Wait. Is that a human expression? Never mind." Gus sighed. "I-I've just been thinking. What if it's time for me to explore different kinds of magic?"

"King and I all for trying new things, but what's wrong with illusions?" Luz asked.

"Illusions are just so...you know-"
