Sixclaws's POV

Sixclaws and his dearest friend, Dune were sitting together by a fire, watching the flames crackle as tiredness pulled on their eyelids.

Sixclaws couldn't help but fight the sleep, he didn't want to miss a moment with Dune, he never wanted to miss a moment with him, especially not now with the looming fear of the battle ahead.

Dune stuck his talons in the sand, sifting it around tiredly, he was unwilling to relent to the rest that called for him as well.

"Dune.." the other male breathed out, breaking the sweet silence they had for a moment.

Dunes head snapped up, and he looked at Sixclaws, giving him a small smile as he quivered in the desert chill. "Yes, Claws?"

Sixclaws rolled his eyes. "If youre gonna call me anything than call me-"

"Yes yes, call you by your real name I know already. I'm gonna call you Claws wether you like it or not" Dune said cheekily, flopping onto the ground and against Sixclaws's side.

Sixclaws, as if I'm instinct, wrapped his wing around him to keep him warm in the frosty night air.

He felt the other male relax as his body heat warmed him up, he felt his heart flutter in his chest as the other male gently reached over and laced their talons together with a happy sigh.

"Whatever" he breathed with a small sigh. "Well, anyways, I was.. just going to say that you need to make sure you watch yourself if there's any battles tomorrow, icewings are really good fighters, and if you get frost bitten you need to seek medical attention immediately" He explained, and Dune nodded, not paying much attention.

"Yeah, yeah, don't worry Claws.. I'll be fine"

And now here they were, him and Kindle sporting a heavy and severely injured Dune between them in his blanket wrap.

Kindle looked exhausted, and Sixclaws took notice. "We should rest" he told her, glancing down yet again at Dune's mangled wing, and he felt a pang of sadness race through him.

"Yeah, we should, we can take shifts watching for any soldiers a loft"

With that, the pair swept to the sands, there were the lights of a village in the distance, so he hoped that if any soldiers came over head they wouldn't care about them and mistake them as village inhabitants.

"Sienna Dunes.." Kindle breathed wistfully at the town, then turned and looked at them. "I should go bed some supplies for the rest of our trip." She said, and he nodded, his attention mainly on his best friend.

As soon as Kindle departed for Sienna Dunes, Dune sniffled slightly, tiny tears glittering in the corners of his eyes before slipping down his cheeks and dripping on his soft, slightly bloody blanket.

"I don't think I can live like this, Sixclaws." He breathed out through choked crying. "How am I even gonna get around? I can't fly and It will be a miracle if I can walk properly."

The other male watched him, feeling saddened on his behalf.

He laid beside him and wrapped his wing around him, just as he had done the previous night.

Dune's crying softened a bit as he turned and pressed his head into Sixclaws shoulder.

As Dune cried, Sixclaws felt his heart ache more and more, he quietly admitted to himself this was much different than it had been to seeing other soldiers in this much pain. The cries he heard in the tents after a battle had never filled him with such a forlorn sadness.
