Silas
The moment I pull back, my eyes land on Jane again. She's smiling as I've never seen. Granted, she is tipsy, but it's more than that. Her whole aura is beaming and vivacious. "Naughty Silas, it is!" she teases as I chuckle, pecking her now swollen lips. "Where do we begin?" she mules over the abundance of dishes. "Mmm, oysters."
"I thought you were a vegetarian?" I blurt out without thinking. She halts in her movement and looks at me. "I remember—"
"I eat crustaceans from time to time. So, technically I'm a pescatarian, not a vegetarian," she shrugs and places an oyster on my plate. "Try it with me?" I eye the gooey goop and sniff. My wolf is not impressed but relaxes the moment Jane giggles. Squeezing lemon on top of the raw, grossness, she lifts her and urges me to follow suit. "You can chew or just swallow, it depends on the person, but I like the taste."
Many dirty thoughts flood my mind as her giggle has me scoffing. I suspect my face was depicting many of them. "As I said, naughty Silas, it is!" Chuckling, I shake my head as she nods toward the rugged shell tucked between my fingers.
"You've had them before?" I question, eyeing the sludge in front of me. I'm not going to lie; it's kind of freaking me out. I like fish and lobster, but that's as much seafood as I eat.
"Just once. At Lanny's parent's New Year's Eve party. It was so tasty. Cheers!" she taps the shell against mine before placing it on her lower lip and again encourages me to follow. Reluctantly, I do and slurp the substance back, swallowing it down my throat.
"Ah, fuck! That's horrible!" I chuckle, reaching for my water as she laughs wholeheartedly. "I rate it a negative one!" I catch the look before she looks over and places the bread and oil between us to cleanse our pallets. "You?"
"A ten." I laugh, plucking up some olives stuffed with macadamia nuts and placing them down on her plate before adding other goodies for us to try and rate. "How old are you?" she asks, piling cured meat and various cheeses on mine. I look over and chuckle again. "Tell me."
"One hundred and eighty-seven." She stops just as Blondie returns with two more bottles of wine. She eyes me and actually smiles a flirtatious grin. "Thank you. Please don't disturb us again unless we call you over," I grunt as her eyes sting with insult. "You no longer have my permission to look at me or my mate in my presence." Her smile drips off her face as she glances at Jane, who seems oblivious or uncaring. Instead, she's busy filling our plates with matching food, besides my meat and her crustaceans.
"As you wish, my Alpha." The waitress bows and backs away from our table, tucked away in a far corner. I thought it would be easier on Lannister and Sarah's guests if I were somewhat hidden from the limelight. After all, this is not about me; it's about Jane's friends. However, when someone outright disrespects my mate in front of me, they will get an ear full—or more, depending on the person. Reaching for the wine, I fill our glasses as Jane wears a coy little grin.
"I'm used to it," she states softly. "And I'm sure every human in this building is questioning why someone of your stature, let alone species, would ever want to spend time with someone like me." Her words don't come across as insecure or unworthy; instead, they're factual.
She's not wrong. If you had told me six months ago that I'd be Pineton attending a wedding, breaking bread and getting wasted with a human female as quirky and utterly amazing as they come, I'd have your head for insanity. But here I am and loving every goddamn minute of it.
"One hundred and eighty-seven, huh? You're old." She picks up an olive and aims it at my mouth. On a whim, I open it as she tosses it in. Winking, she smiles more. "You must have experienced so much, Silas," she adds with heavy empathy.
