Chapter 19 – The Necklace and the Snake in the Grass

Monday had been awfully cold. The second week of November and it was getting colder by the second. The tree’s were almost bare and without leaves, but the ground seemed to be covered with them here and there. Patches of grass was still able to be seen without the orange and red children of the tree’s lying around.

Giselle was in her dorm staring outside through her window. She noticed the simple characteristics of winter as she stared out hating it completely. The cold never seemed to mix with her and was something she was never fond of.

Then again, the good overwhelmed feeling that came with Isaac wasn’t bad. How could she hate the cold weather but be able to stand someone so cold themselves. He didn’t seem heartless to her, but she couldn’t help but think that that’s what he was aiming for. Still, there was no way on earth to be able to read what he was thinking or feeling. For a second she wanted the Professors powers but then quickly went against it when she thought about the knowing that would be packaged with surprise.

She felt an ease in her chest when she thought about Isaac. How she could trust him with not telling the Professor about the letter. The letter seeming so serious but she remained unaware about what was truly going on. A blur in not only Giselle’s mind but her mothers also.

Giselle felt her heart sink. Was she even aloud to call Karen her mother? She gave her up without asking questions, like that was what she was raising her for, that exact moment, All because of a simple order from the man that only raised her a year of her life. Was he that powerful? Or was Karen that loyal?

In the back of her mind was a thought about Vincent. His words stung her memory, how willing he was to kill her. What had happened to him? She thought back to him thinking Cromin still existed. She shook out the thought knowing it was impossible.

A ring of the phone caused Giselle to snap out of her thinking. Staring out the window into the cold made her feel thoughtful and in wonder.

Giselle answered the second ring, confused of who it might be. “Hello.”

“Hey, what’s up?” It was Jonah.

“Hey, nothing just spending my lunch break in my dorm.” She replied. “I guess.”

“Well to me that sounds boring and lonely.” He said. “I have a better offer.”

            “Which is?”

“I’d have to show you.” He said. “Meet me in the front of your building in 20 minutes.”

Giselle laughed. “Should I be armed with any weapons?”

“Unless you plan on trying to kill me.” He said with a nervous laugh. “If not then no.”
