Chapter One-Hundred-Eight
🏹 Rowan 🏹

"Why is the guy who went to Japan to free the Nogitsune now in Beacon Hills trying to burn down the woods?" Jackson asked as he walked back and forth in Stilinski's office, tossing an apple up and down. "He's not trying to burn down the woods. It's- only part of it." Lydia said, looking at a crime board.

"Do we have to play junior detectives? Can't we just leave it up to the actual detectives?" Jackson asked, making Lydia cock an eyebrow, "Do you see any actual detectives standing around?" Lydia asked and Jackson sighed. "But what do detectives do anyways? Do they like, go to the scene of the crime and... detect something?" He asked, making Lydia look at him.

"That's exactly what they do." She said as Jackson took a bite out of the apple, "We need to look at one of the burn sites, the first one." Lydia said and Jackson shrugged before Malia and Blake ran in. "Guys, guys." Malia said, making them look over, "Hi." She said when she saw Jackson.

"We got a big ass problem." Malia said and Blake shook her head slightly, "Derek, Stilinski, Deaton... Eli, they're all gone." Blake said, making Lydia's eyes widen. "What do you mean gone?" She asked and Blake sighed, "They were taken." She said. "By who?" Jackson asked before Parrish walked in, covered in soot.

"The Oni."

🏹

Blake and Lydia were crouched down, looking at the ash on the ground while Jackson and Malia stood off to the side, Parrish looking around a little ways away. Jackson had a bored look on his face while Malia had a mix of boredom and anxious look on hers.

"These were rapid burns." Blake said and Lydia nodded, "There is something systemic about it." She said as they stood up. "Is she gonna keep talking like this?" Malia asked, looking at Jackson, "I stopped listening six hours ago." Jackson said, making Blake roll her eyes. "May I remind you all that I am now skilled enough in my magic that I can kill someone with just a single snap of my fingers?" Blake said, looking back at them.

Jackson just raised his eyebrows and held his hands up slightly while Malia sighed. "All right. I'm sorry. I'm not gonna spend the rest of the day walking through the woods trying to catch a pyromaniac." Malia said as she walked over to Parrish. "Do you have a better plan?" Jackson asked and Malia shrugged, "We already know what kills the Oni." She said.

"Silver." Parrish said and Malia pointed at him, "You with me?" She asked, looking at him. "Go. Get all the silver you can. And if you find the Oni, don't fight them. Kill them." Blake said and Malia and Parrish nodded before Malia gave her a two finger salute then walked away.

"Jackson, what do you smell?" Lydia asked after a few minutes and Jackson took a deep breath before cringing. "Ugh. The horrifying stench of death." He said, making Blake roll her eyes, "What else do you smell?" She asked. Jackson crouched down, grabbing some of the burnt remains on the ground and sniffing them.

"It's not gas. It's not lighter fluid or anything like that. It's different." Jackson said and Lydia nodded, "Chemical accelerant." Lydia said, making Blake look at her. "It's a quick burn so they can't set the rest of the forest on fire." Lydia said and Blake thought for a moment as she followed them.

"Well, does that tell us anything useful?" Jackson asked and Lydia raised her eyebrows slightly, "Well, in terms of the fire, they know chemicals." Lydia said as they walked up to a tree. "They know exactly how to use them." She said and Jackson furrowed his brows, "I don't get it. Why would someone spend all this time and energy burning up rowan trees?" He asked, making Blake and Lydia pause.

"Rowan trees?" Lydia asked and Jackson nodded, "Yeah. That's what the smell is, right?" He asked and Blake sighed. "Jackson, do you know what rowan trees become after they're burned?" She asked and he raised his eyebrows, "Ash?" He asked as she pulled off a piece of durn bark. She crumbled it with her fingers, feeling the energy flowing through it.

"Mountain ash." She said before glancing around, "These fires were made with a chemical accelerant... So was the fire that killed my family." Blake said, looking at Lydia, making her eyes widen in realization.

🏹

"Blake thinks the accelerant used to start the fire might be the same one used to start a fire over twenty years ago." Lydia said with Parrish on speakerphone as she drove. Blake sat next to her, looking through her Necromancer book while Jackson sat in the back.

"Are you talking about the fire that killed her family?" Parrish asked and Blake sighed, glancing up from her book, "Yeah and there's one more thing. The person who came up with this formula is supposed to be dead." She said and Jackson raised his eyebrows.

"Supposed to be dead is starting to be a recurring theme around here." He said and Blake chuckled, looking back down at her book. "Yeah, and you and I fit in that category." She said before turning the page to her book, she started reading it and a second later her eyes widened as a smile slowly grew on her face.

Blake laughed softly in relief as she leaned her head back, making Lydia and Jackson look at her. "What is it?" Lydia asked and Blake smiled and turned the book towards her, "To kill a Nogitsune." Blake said, reading the title of the page, making Lydia and Jackson's eyes widen. "You can kill it? Permanently?" He asked and Blake nodded as she read through the page.

"It's an easy spell to remember... All I need left is a Hellhound."
