Draco's POV

I leaned against the sink as the water droplets ran down my face. The water down the sink. I splashed it again on my face, relishing how ice-cold it was.

I wasn't really paying attention to McGonagall's speech until she spoke of Dumbledore. It was already uncomfortable for me when Potter gave me a look, almost blaming me. It felt unsettling.

I knew Potter had seen it all. He had seen me standing, pointing my wand at Dumbledore, with death eaters surrounding me. He probably hated me as much as Professor Snape. It had never bothered me until today when I saw it in his eyes. And honestly, I was horrified. I could sense myself being different from them. I didn't fit among them.

I'm a death eater. They know it.

I held my head down, breathing deeply. My hand shook as I closed the tap. It was like being in 6th year, constantly fearing what I had to do. The way I knew I wouldn't survive.

But I had.

I had survived back then, hanging on the string, right on the brink. Nevertheless, I had failed even then. I had failed Dumbledore, I had failed Father, I had failed everyone. I had failed myself. And now, I was failing myself again. And I was failing Astoria with myself.

I deserve all this.

There was a faint rumble from my stomach, but I didn't feel like eating. I considered going back to the dorm. The feast must be over anyway. I needed to make sure to sneak into the candidates' dormitory without anyone noticing.

Thank Merlin, it's the weekend tomorrow!

Wiping my face, I ran a hand through my hair to look more presentable. The students were going to their respective dormitories when I went out. I tried to hide but heard someone calling me.

"Draco?" Astoria said.

I looked at her and tried to smile.

"Hey," she said, probably not noticing my slightly red eyes.

"Hi," I replied faintly.

"What are you doing here? I thought the candidates had returned to their dormitory."

"Yeah, I uh..." I tried to come up with some excuse, "I was using the bathroom. Why are you here?"

Astoria rolled her eyes. "I'm Prefect. I was making sure all the Slytherin students were inside. Looks like one Slytherin is still out here..." She gave me a flirtatious look.

I tried to smirk at her sentence. Suddenly, we heard someone talking around the corridors. Astoria looked around and pulled me into a corner.

"Come here," she whispered.

I unintentionally followed her. When we were in a secluded place, she pressed herself onto me.

"What are you doing?" I asked without thinking.

"Do you want to make out?" she whispered.

"Uh-" Before I could reply, she leaned in.

I managed to deflect her. "We are at Hogwarts." I whispered-shouted in alarm.

"So?" Astoria raised her brows.

"So, we can get in trouble if anyone sees us," I explained, "It's against the rules."

"Draco, nobody cares about those rules."

"Just not now, ok? It's the first day," I said, pulling my arm free of her grasp.

"Fine, I'll give you some time to settle in," she said with an unreadable expression.

"Thank you," I whispered.

"Come on." Astoria turned. "I'll drop you by your dormitory. You probably don't know the password."

I nodded and followed her. "I didn't know they had an extra dormitory."

"They didn't," Astoria said. "They built it during the renovation. They built other things too. I mean, they had to. After the war, this place was a mess."

I quietly nodded. I was a part of that war. I was on the enemy's side.

"There," Astoria said as she stopped in front of a painting. A quote was written with beautiful calligraphy on it.

"We do not need magic to transform our world. We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already."

"Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore," Astoria whispered, and the painting moved to uncover a door. I sensed an unusual sensation in my stomach.

"You... you know the password?" I nervously asked.

"How many times do I have to say it?" Astoria smirked proudly. "I'm a Prefect. I have more advantages than you know."

I nodded.

"Well," Astoria said. "Good night, Draco." She kissed my cheek.

"Good night," I whispered and walked into the dormitory.

There were hardly any people awake. Thankfully, I found Theo sitting in the common room. I was in no mood for a chat. So, I asked him the directions to the boys' dorms and greeted him good night.

The door to my- our dorm opened with a creak. It was quite dark, so I held up my wand and said, "Lumos."

It wasn't enough.

"Lumos maxima."

My wand glowed, spreading enough light for me to see Potter peacefully sleeping on the bed. When I moved closer, I realised there was only one double bed for both of us.

My heart stopped. Potter and I are expected to sleep together?

I scoffed and looked around. There was a couch beside the window. It wasn't a permanent solution. But it was better than sleeping beside bloody Potter.

I practically threw myself on it, pouring all my mental stress. There was only one blanket, which was taken by Potter, curled into the mattress and very much snoozing. I huffed, closed my eyes, and fell asleep within seconds.
