"Where were you?" Jake questioned as Neteyam walked though the entrance of the marui, the warrior almost jumping a foot in the air. "On a walk..." He trailed off, giving his father a confused look as he went to walk to his room.
"So that want you and Tatianayi having a moment on the grass together before you carried her back to her hut?" Jake smirked, crossing his arms as his son froze in his footsteps. "Oh yeah, that's right it was, and is this your arrow feather along with her arrow?" He added, holding up the two items.
Neteyam groaned, his head banging against the pole in the doorway as he realised. "Date night." Jake hummed, cocking his head as his son turned around to face him. "So... did you two have sex-" Dad!" Neteyam scolded, covering his ears like a child.
"It was your mother's question-" "That's even worse!" Neteyam whisper shouted, walking towards him and away from the rooms so he wouldn't wake up his family. "Did you?" Jake questioned, now sharpening his axe which made the boy scrunch his face up, shaking his head as he sat down on the floor, resting his elbows on his knees. "No."
"So what did you two do?" Jake asked, a smirk creeping on his face as he looked down at his son who began to smile in thought. "I went out into the woods and to the trees where I first talked to her when we came here, she kept threatening to kill me with her bow. I went there to think about us but she was already there.
Neteyam sighed. "She really misses the forest, dad. Like really misses it. She just wants to see her home again, the people, her uncle, grandmother, she want so to know the forest." "And that's why you were teaching her." Jake concluded, Neteyam nodded in confirmation.
"Dad, I was thinking." Neteyam spoke, standing up and sitting down next to Jake. "I was supposed to be next in line to be Olo'eyktan before we left. But now Tatia's uncle is Olo'eyktan. His mate is dead and they had no children which would mean Tatia is next in line as she is the only living relative left to become the Olo'eyktan."
"The people think she's dead, if she returned..." Jake leaned back in his seat while running a hand over his face. He was right. "The people would never except a hybrid to be Olo'eyktan-" "You're a hybrid, technically. Which would mean I have hybrid blood. They were fine with that." Neteyam spoke in a confident voice, knowing he was right.
"That was at a time of war and your grandfather died. I was made Toruk Makto-"
The warrior looked down, thinking back to one of the first things Tatia had said to him. "But, because he's Toruk Makto just makes it all okay, right?"
So he said her words to his father who snapped his look up at him. Neteyam gulped, standing up and going to walk to his room before he spun back around to face his father.
"That was what Tatianayi said to me the first time we spoke, and she's right. I'm not a little kid anymore, Dad. I'm 20 in a few days! I'm an adult! I was blind to see that you've been making my decisions for me! Taking me from my home when they don't even know I exist! That was my home!" Neteyam yelled, not caring if he woke his family, he needed to hear it.
"I was willing to fight for it even if it killed me! I wanted to! Because it was MY home! You may not have grew up on this planet but I have! So had Mom, Lo'ak, Kiri and Tuk! You have no idea of the pain you've caused us!"
Jake looked up at his son with teary eyes as Neteyam stuck out his finger, his body tense and strong with anger.
"I tried not to express it! For my siblings so I could comfort them! I never got to be comforted! Never! With Tatia she understands me in all the ways you don't! She understands how I need the forest, dad... So even if there is the slightest chance of me going home... I'll take it. Not only for me but for Tatia as well seeing as you dragged her away too.
His tail swished angrily as he walked away, snatching his bow and quiver from the floor as he slammed the door to his room.
Neteyam felt guilty, he had never spoke to his father like that before. But it was time he knew, time he realised. The warrior placed his belongings on the floor, before getting into his hammock.
He was restless that night, unable to sleep at what possibilities could happen. He would roll over again and again, single tears flowing down his face no matter how hard it was to stop them. And in that moment he did needed to be comforted, but the only person who could give him that, he couldn't have.
