We'll never know {inspired}

This is a oneshot inspired by the poem "We Never Know", written by Yusef Komunyakaa.

It's a very beautiful poem, and I'll put the full thing at the end.

I watched him from afar as he danced throughout the field with the wind.

He was happy.

A bright smile on his face that could light up the world.

His hair getting slightly ruffled with the wind.

His eyes, closed as he turned his face towards the sun.

His entire presence was ethereal.

The tall grass was swaying with him.

I sighed as our gunshots were heard across the field.

He fell to the ground.

When I walked to him, I found a crumpled photograph in his small hands.

I pried it loose, and glanced at it before I put it in my pocket.

I had fallen in love.

But I could never fall for him again.

As the helicopters were talking off from the scene, I slipped his photo back into his hands.

I hesitated slightly before turning him back over, so he wasn't kissing the ground.

His eyes were closed

His beautiful smile still on his face.

Stains from tears on his cheek were also evident.

I smiled sadly as I walked away.

I had fallen for someone i shouldn't have.

And we both had paid the unforgivable price.

I looked up to the sky as a tear fell down my cheek as well.

"I'm sorry, Felix."

I raised my pistol to my temple, before pulling the trigger, putting myself to an eternal rest.

I would be able to love him without any restrictions.

Everything faded into black as I collapsed to the ground .

Everything faded into black as I took my final breaths with a smile on my face.

Everything faded into black as I smiled, happy to meet my evident fate.

Everything faded to black.

How did you guys like this oneshot?

I bet you're probably a bit confused, so I'll explain some things for you!

#1: Felix and Hyunjin we're in love, but they couldn't be bc of unknown reasons (you can make up a reason!)
#2: Since Felix and Hyunjin we're in love, Hyunjin's partners/family/accomplices (they can be whatever you think they are) killed Felix.
#3: The picture Felix had in his hand was a picture of Hyunjin and him.
#4: Hyunjin k!lled himself bc he wanted to be with Felix.
#5: Felix was in the field because he knew what had to be done, he knew he was going to die either way, so he chose a field bc it was peaceful.

This story can be interpreted in Many ways! I will not say if one way is right, or if it's wrong, but I will read any interpretations y'all have!

I'm sorry for posting a kinda sad oneshot, but the poem I got inspiration from is honestly quite beautiful.

I'll put the poem here:

"He danced with tall grass
for a moment, like he was swaying
with a woman. Our gun barrels
glowed white-hot.
When I got to him,
a blue halo
of flies had already claimed him.
I pulled the crumbled photograph
from his fingers.
There's no other way
to say this: I fell in love.
The morning cleared again,
except for a distant mortar
& somewhere choppers taking off.

& turned him over, so he wouldn't be
