✧ Chapter 2

Nezuko walked up to some farmers,
"Excuse me. I see you have a basket, some bamboo and straw over there, may I have them?"
"Sure but... The basket has a hole in it."
"That's fine, I'd like to pay you for it."
"There's no need... not for a worn-down basket."
"No. I'm paying." Nezuko started to get more persistent,
"Please, just take it. The bamboo and straw too."
"I WILL PAY YOU!"
"Please don't! What a stubborn child you are...". Nezuko grabbed the mans hand and slapped some money onto it,
"Here! It's only a few coins but it should be enough!"
"Thanks and goodbye!" Then she walked away with the stuff.
"Ouch..." The man grumbled while holding onto his hand.

Nezuko walked up to a small cave and kneeled in front of it,
"Tanjiro." She looked inside of the cave and couldn't see him.
"He's gone!" Tanjiro pops his head out of a whole in the middle of the cave,
"There you are!"
"..." He didn't reply just had an upset look on his face,
'He dug a hole. Is he trying to become a mole?'
'His face is scrunched up... He must really not want the sunlight to hit him...'
"Hold on a little longer" She got up, walked over to the broken basket, sat in front of it and started repairing it.

Nezuko was kneeling next to the whole Tanjiro was in, holding onto the basket,
"Can you fit?" She gestured inside of the basket,
"I will use it to carry you, I want to travel during the day too."
"..."
"Get... Into... The basket." Nezuko put the basket on its side on the ground. Tanjiro crawled out of the whole and into the basket, only the top half of his body fitted inside of the basket.

"I think its too small" Nezuko muttered,
"Hm? Tanjiro you're the size of an adult now. You need to make yourself smaller." Nezuko patted Tanjiros back. Tanjiro flipped the basket over with him still inside of it and shrunk.
"Oh! Good job!" Nezuko patted Tanjiros head.

"To reach the slopes of Sagiri you must first pass through these mountains." A kind lady with her child, pointed Nezuko in the right direction,
"The sun is going down now... Are you sure you want to continue? With such large luggage won't it be dangerous?" Nezuko bowed,
"Don't worry I'll be fine, Thank you for everything!" She started walking in the direction of the mountains.
"There's stories of travellers that disappear into thin air, Be careful!" The lady called out after her.

It was night now so Tanjiro was aloud out of the basket. The duo approached a building,
"Look a temple! You can also see light inside, we have company!" They walked up to the temple. When Nezuko was right in front of the temple doors she smelt a faint tinge of blood
(Nezuko doesn't have Tanjiros amazing nose smelling ability thing) she opened the door. The scene displayed in front of her disturbed her.

There were corpses everywhere all with chunks of flesh missing, the main focus in the room was something kneeling on the floor and eating one of the dead bodies.
"Hey!"
"This... this is my territory. Trespassers aren't allowed!" Tanjiro stared at the bodies lying on the floor and started to drool.

"Hm? There's something strange... about you two... You're human!" The demon directed his attention to Nezuko. He pounced at her, Nezuko brought out her hatchet and sliced at the demons neck. She landed on the ground while the demon stood a distance away from her. He chuckled at her,
"A hatchet? Nice. But a shallow cut like this... It can heal in no time" he gestured at the cut,
"See? The blood has already stopped." The demon snarled and moved his hand away from the cut and it instantly healed. Tanjiro turned his head slightly to see what was happening outside but his gaze went back to staring at the bodies in front of him.

The demon leaped at Nezuko again and pinned her down,
'he's fast, and he's too strong for me...'
"I won't let you hurt me again. And now... I'll break your neck."
Whack!
The demons head went flying and hit a nearby tree.

Nezuko panicked and pushed the headless body off of her and looked up at Tanjiro who had just kicked of the demons' head,
'H-He killed him' Tanjiro then kicked the demons body away as it was starting to move.
'How is that possible... it was beheaded, but its body still moved...'
"BASTARD!" Nezuko turned to the now decapitated head,
"I had the impression that one of you was a demon! But that would be too strange... A demon and a human travelling together!?".

The decapitated body ran at Tanjiro and tried attacking him.
"NO!" Nezuko started to swing her hatchet at the headless body but changed direction mid swing. The head which now had grown arms bit onto the hatchet trying to reach Nezuko,
'Huh!? The head grew arms!'
"Stop!" Nezuko shouted and hit the demons' head on the nearest tree. The action confused the demon and Nezuko used this to her advantage and pinned the demon to the tree with the hatchet and then ran to go help Tanjiro.

The demon's body was attacking Tanjiro and was edging him closer to the edge of a cliff. Nezuko ran up to the two.
"LEAVE HIM ALONE!" She shouted as she pushed the demon's body off of Tanjiro but lost her footing and nearly fell down the cliff, fortunately Tanjiro grabbed onto her arm before she plummeted to her death. The demons' body wasn't so lucky and crashed onto the ground.

Nezuko and Tanjiro were back in front of the demons' head. She pulled out a small knife to properly kill the demon, a hand grabbed her shoulder and she spun around,
"You won't be able to kill him with that dull blade." A man with a tengu mask stood behind her.
