Short and relatively sweet. I'm working with writer's block these days.

Purgatory was quiet. It wasn't really purgatory, that realm apparently didn't exist, but Lucifer had ordered the demons away from torturing you and that left you in a quiet purgatory in Hell. It was peaceful, but it was also quite boring. There was nothing to really do. You'd read all of the books in Lucifer's library by now and while Belios wasn't bad company, the demon was getting bored too.

That's not to say Lucifer didn't try to help. He tried, whether that was through changing the loop's scenery or through talking with you. Talking with you always circled back to one thing though.

"Luce, we've been over this," you huffed, your arms crossed.

"Please, Y/n, let me help you." You kept your eyes on the floor—currently the penthouse's black tile—and hated to see him beg. It just wasn't Lucifer. "You can absolve yourself of your guilt and—"

You sighed. "I've already told you no, Lucifer."

"But then you stay here," Lucifer protested, confused and hurt. "Y/n—"

"No, Luce. I don't want to let go."

"But... Why? The Silver City is a paradise, you can be happy—"

"I can't, Luce." You looked at him now, swallowing thickly. "I can't let go of my guilt because if I do, then I lose you."

"Oh... Y/n..." Lucifer's voice cracked and he had to pause to choke back a sob. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. For getting you stuck here, for not just bloody telling you when I went to Las Vegas. I'm sorry."

"I know you are, Lucifer," you said quietly, stepping closer to him. "But you can't change anything now, and I still love you. I don't— I don't want to lose you again."

Lucifer sobbed again as you hugged him. "Please, Y/n. I can't let you stay here for eternity."

"Being here doesn't hurt, Luce. It's boring as fuck, sure, but it doesn't hurt. You can't change anything now." You held him tightly when another whimper passed his lips. This was his own hell, not being able to free you. You hummed, gently tugging him towards the stairs to the bedroom. "Come get some sleep, Luce, surely Hell can run on its own for a while."

It was almost worrying, how easily the devil went, complaining not even a thought in his mind.

It wasn't much later when you had a new visitor. Lucifer had been forced to leave and make his rounds through the realm, keeping everything in working order. That had left an opening.

Your loop had shifted to become a sunny beach, ocean waves crashing onto the sand. You recognized this beach, the one Lucifer had said he first landed on. It was empty besides yourself. You'd gotten used to that, so when the new man appeared in front of you, you were confused.

"Hello, Y/n," he greeted with a smile that said he was eons old. "I don't mean to intrude."

You frowned, studying the man and the odd feeling of power coming from him. "...God?"

"Yes." The celestial nodded once. His entire aura was warm, grandfatherly and painted sepia. "I'm here with an offer of sorts. Lucifer has no idea about this."

Your frown deepened. "Go on."

"I'm offering to immortalize your soul. You'd still be human for the most part, but you'd be immortal and invulnerable as my children are. Able to walk Hell's halls and move between planes alongside someone with wings."

"Okay..." You tilted your head, eyes narrowing slightly. "And what's the catch?"

The celestial shook his head. "No catch. I give you my word."

"Then why...?"

At that, God ducked his head for a moment. "Because despite what my children believe, I do love them. I may not know how to show it, but it is true. And Lucifer loves you."

That was something to digest. Everything Lucifer had said about his father, and you knew Lucifer never lied. However, you also knew he was prone to being willfully blind, trying to make the world fit his narrative because once he had his head or his heart set on something, that was how it must be. The smallest of smiles graced your lips as you remembered the countless times Chloe had ranted to you about such happenings while working with Lucifer.

There was that, and then there was the only question that came to your mind.

"...How long have you been watching?"

God smiled, amused. "Long enough. I'll let you think on my offer—"

"I don't need to think about it." The celestial appeared mildly surprised by your words and you went on. "If it means I can get out of this loop but still stay with Lucifer, then I accept."

Your heart was racing. Not with fear or adrenaline, but anticipation. This was what you had hoped for: a way to get out of your purgatory loop that didn't involve going to Heaven where you'd never see Lucifer again. As much as he had hurt you, you didn't feel right abandoning him to an eternity alone. And you still loved him.

The process was simple. The elder celestial's magic wrapped around your soul, part of it fusing with you. It was a gentle weight settling deep in your bones, just enough to be noticeable when you searched for it. Then God took your hand and led you out of the loop.

Now, you knew Hell was dreary. Lucifer had shown you the grey sky of the realm before. There was no sun and ash rained constantly. It smelled of sulphur and stone. There was that, and then there was the relief you felt at getting out of your loop. Not even the wasteland that waited for you could quell that relief.

God stayed long enough to be sure your soul was at ease with his adjustments, and then he left. Quietly to yourself, you called it fleeing because the celestial had quickly shot down the idea of waiting around to see Lucifer and then all but ran away. You didn't feel like going anywhere near those family issues. Not right then, because Lucifer had returned and you had better things to address than the celestial family drama.

"Y/n," Lucifer started as he landed in front of you, clearly confused. "How...? Are you alright?"

You nodded. "I'm just fine, Luce. Your dad came down and made me an offer."

As expected, Lucifer's lips curled. "Dad was here?" Then his sneer faded as he realized, "Dad got you out?"

You nodded again with a smile. "I'm immortal like you are. Still human, but immortal and invulnerable. No conditions or strings attached."

With a small, confused frown, Lucifer reached out for you. He cupped your cheek gently, tilting his head as he studied you. You watched as he glanced back to where the door to your hell loop had been. There was nothing there now, just rough black stone. Lucifer's dark eyes turned back to you, something like hope filling his expression.

"We'll be alright, Luce," you murmured as he pulled you into his arms. "We're both here."
