"Lucifer, where are you?"
"Sorry, Chloe, but Luce is gonna need a week off."
"Y/n? Why, what happened?"
"He's..." There's a pause and the detective can hear a meow in the background of the call. "What? No I'm not— Ugh, sorry. Lucifer is sick and can't come in to work."
Chloe's brows furrow. "Can he get sick? Y'know, being who he is?"
"Uh, I'm not sure." Another meow is heard and you snap, "What?! Yes, I know! Sorry, Chloe, I gotta go."
You hang up before she can reply. Confused, she pulls her phone away from her ear with a frown. Shaking her head, the woman turns her focus back to the case at hand, deciding to visit you later.
Meanwhile in the penthouse of Lux, anyone just walking in would find you shouting at an angry black cat. The cat's ears are flat against its head, tail swishing in anger as it sits on the bar glaring at you.
Meow.
"How is it my fault?!"
Small growl.
"I told you I'm a witch and that I was storing some of my potions along your great wall of booze! You're the one who didn't read the label!"
Hiss.
"Don't you take that tone with me, Mister. I can and will throw you into the bathtub."
The devil-turned-cat hisses at you again before turning away, flicking his tail at you.
"Did you just flip me off?" You say disbelievingly, glaring at the golden-eyed cat.
Lucifer gives no reply. Instead, he jumps down from the bar, wobbling a little as he gets used to walking in his new form. Once he can walk without his face meeting the floor, he stalks off to the bedroom.
You groan, letting your head fall against the surface of the bar. Anger still races through you at being blamed, and you're tempted to leave and let Lucifer deal with it on his own but since it was your potion, you're the only one who can understand him and besides, you're worried too.
With a sigh, you grab the cup Lucifer had been drinking from. Lifting it up, you sniff the liquid inside.
"Tequila," you mumble. "Tequila and Cat Claw potion... Damn, of course he would just see something that looks like booze and pour it without bothering to read the label clearly on the bottle... Now instead of only twenty-four hours, it'll last a week."
You take the cup to the bathroom, dumping the contents into the toilet and flushing it. Walking out, you manage to see the devil curled up on the bed, his ears still back and his tail still swishing. You decide to leave the angry cat alone and take the cup back to the bar, setting it down and then moving to sit on the couch.
Grabbing your potions book, you flip through it in an effort to find a reversal potion you could make. You're so deep in thought you don't even notice Lucifer until he jumps up on the couch next to you and causes you to let out a startled yelp.
Your eyes meet Lucifer's. After holding your gaze for a few seconds, he looks away almost guiltily.
Meow.
"... Yeah, I'm sorry to."
A little mew.
"I know, Luce. It's not every day you get turned into a cat, you're allowed to be annoyed. But it's still not my fault because I told you I was keeping some potions there."
A whining meow.
"I don't know where else to put them. Come here."
You set your book down, picking up the black cat before he can protest. You hold Lucifer against your chest, lightly scratching his head. An amused smile crosses your lips when you hear him start purring, his tense muscles relaxing as he cuddles into you in a way he would never do to anyone else.
