After Representation

"I am sorry, Nath! I completely overreacted. Please, let me at least take you to the hospital. Here, I give you the ring back. I was just so worried about Adrien. I thought, you made him do that. I... damn it, woman, speak with me. I need to know, if you're okay. Well, as okay, as you can be!"

Nathalie's voice was barely audible and she was gasping for air, as she replied. Her by now white turning hair was falling into her face, but she didn't even notice. She had almost given up completely, knowing that whatever would happen to her, would happen soon. So she just hissed, 

"Keep your stupid ring, Gabriel. If there's anyone, who deserves to wear it, it's Adrien. Why don't you leave him a choice? Why can't you just let him be a normal teenager? You're hurting him and you don't even care. He's in love and you locked him away, so he can't even call her or text her. Imagine, I would turn of the power in the basement and Émilie's body was lost forever. How would that make you feel?"

"I just told you, that I'm sorry, Nathalie. Please, love, I will leave you alone, but tell me, how you're feeling? How's the baby? Do you feel any pain again? Tell me at least anything!" Gabriel furiously pried.

"Just go! I don't want to see you any longer, Gabriel. Just go and be Mrs Tsurugi's robot. Let her control you until you've lost everything and everyone. Maybe then you'll understand. But then, it will be too late, because you'll have nothing left!"

He inhaled deeply, as he walked over to the armchairs with the table and the chessboard in the middle and sat down in one of them, placing his feet on the other, trying to get as comfortable as he could.

"I'll stay in the room, just in case. You can tell me, I don't care, but maybe this will prove to you, that I indeed do. I will stay with you until the very end. Like you once promised to do for me!" he stated coldly.

Nathalie scoffed.

"This is my end, Gabriel. Look at me! How long do you think I have left? Hours? Days? Don't get ridiculous now. Just let me have a couple of calm and quiet hours before I die! I have one last request though. If I am dead and you still somehow could save our child, I need you to tell him or her, how very much I loved them. Every single day! Please promise me that, Gabriel!"

He turned his head and after a while his eyes eventually found hers, when he told her lovingly,

"I won't promise you that. Because I don't have to. You will be there, to do that yourself. That's what I promise you. You will be able to tell our child, how much we both love them!" Seeing her about to object, he sighed and added, "but to just let you finally rest, I promise to you, that our child will always know, that you loved it from the very second you found out, you were pregnant. And now sleep please, I'll be here no matter what!"

Nathalie didn't answer. Her exhaustion and her increasing sickness had let her fall into a deep, dreamless sleep. At first. After Ladybug not having been able to undo the damage, his akumatized self had caused, she was soon lost in her worst nightmare, her heartrate increasing, her breathing rigid, squirming and throwing herself from one side to the other, lost in the terror of her dream.

Gabriel noticed and sighed, then went over and laid down behind her, pulling her taut against him, until he could feel her relax into his touch and go back into a deep sleep phase, one that allowed her broken body to gather that least bit of strength, it had left.

He wasn't even sure, if he would find the stamina to get up in the morning and somehow make it through the day, knowing what was lying ahead of him, if he really wanted to go through with the plan, he and Tomoe Tsurugi had come up with. But as the blind, Japanese woman left him no choice, kept pushing him further and further, he tried to fall asleep as good as he could too, before he would spread his poison over the whole world, causing them all to succumb to their nightmares, willing to do whatever it took to get rid of them. Meaning to download the app onto their alliance, that would make them feel better and later would turn them into mindless, obedient slaves, who would finally get the Ladybug and Black Cat miraculous for him, so he could make his wish. 

Sending a prayer to whatever higher power there was, he asked for the very last chance to save the people he loved and that Mrs Tsurugi wouldn't figure him out before he got the chance to make his wish. He didn't want to endanger her life too, but he would gladly take hers in exchange for one of the women he loved. And so, thinking about a cunning way to double-cross Tomoe, for what she was trying to make him do, Gabriel drifted into a restless sleep himself until he was awoken by the alarm in the morning and with a grunting noise got up to leave one of the two women he loved to save the other. And hopefully her too.
