What is happening to me?

I walked back to my car with the cigarette in my mouth. My jaw is clenched but not in anger but in frustration. I just met this guy and yet when he hugged me in victory my body heated up. I think I'm sick. I got into my car and sat there. I can't let my guard down. That's what I keep telling myself. Because my body seem to find comfort in him. I gripped the steering wheel and started the car.

I can't have him.

I don't deserve him.

I'm not good enough to love.

Love made me weak.

I'm not going through that again.

Yet his green eyes is all I can think about. I pulled out of the school parking lot and drove down the street. I text Archer that I'll be back for dinner and through my phone in my lap. I can't stop. The way he thought it was his life's purpose to protect me from the dodgeball. The way his face light up when we won. The way he nuzzled into my chest. The way looked up at me with a little pout when I woke him up.

No.

Stop, River.

I rolled down the window and let my arm out with lit cigarette between my fingers. I blew out the smoke towards the window and turned the radio on blasting music driving downtown. The autum leaves soaring through the soft breeze and the cloudy sky. I tapped my finger against the car door to the beat. I finally had made it in front of the boys and girls club and park getting out and crashing the cigarette under my shoes. I sprayed the car with vanilla air freshener and walked with the other parents.

I got some stares but I ignore them and wait for all the kids to come out. I don't know why but I'm nervous to see him. I havent seen him in a year and a lot can change in a year. I wondered if my so called mother said anything about me to him to make him hate me. I watched as all the kids run to their parents with big smiles on their face. Then I see him. I bit down my smile and looked at him. His hair grew out and he got taller. He had a spiderman backpack on and I chucked knowing he's always loved spiderman. His face was emotionless and he look around the parents looking for mom.

His eyes stopped at mine and they widened. His eyes scanned me making sure it was me. His bottom lip quivered and his blue eyes glossed over. Then his dashed forward at full speed and I squated down taking my hands out of my pocket. His little body crashed against mine and he hugged me around my neck tightly. I hugged around his little body and I could feel his bones. I bit my lip and hugged him tightly afraid he was gonna disappear. I wrapped my arms around him and stood and his leg wrapped around me. I held him up by his bottom and his back.
