Darshana

"You kissed Veda and slept with Hridhay"

My three besties asked in chorus and I hurriedly signalled them to lower their voices. We all have arrived at Sneha's house for her engagement which is being arranged at her house terrace. Some of her family and relatives are still in the house. "Slept does not mean what you guys think. We both were drunk and fell asleep together in his balcony lounger chair.

"Ohh, Naanga kooda Malu sonathu thaan nadanthuducho nu nenachom." Sneha sighed as Malathi did her hair. "Apo naan sonna mari Veda thaan." She started dancing in her spot.

"Engala ozhunga makeup panna vidu, re. Ithu unnoda engagement." I glared at her before applying foundation to her face.

"Okay. Okay. Aana orey oru doubt uh. Aduthu anatomy class thane?" Sneha winked at me and Malathi and Divya eagerly watched me.

"Naan enna science student ah Anatomy class iruka? Naan porathu art class." I pretended like I didn't understand what they were saying.

"Hey, Kedi ava ketathu enna nu unaku theriyathu?" Divya teased me.

"Ava thaan course start agurathuku munnadi orientation program laiye anatomy class attend panitale." Malathi teased me and received a slap on her arm. "Shut up, Malu. Naane ipo confusion la iruken."

"Enna confusion unaku." Divya took the makeup kit from me and eyed me to sit.

"Ennoda plan enna va irunthuchu nu ungaluku theriyum la. Ipo I kissed Veda and gave him unnecessary hope." I went to sit on the bed.

Monday morning when I woke up, I literally freaked out. I remembered only until I started to drink and tried to explain to Hridhay that I'm not selfish. But I don't remember what explanation I gave and when we dozed off. Gratefully, Hridhay was still sleeping and I sneaked out, erasing the traces of me spending the night in his balcony. The previous time when he was drunk a lot, he didn't remember anything. But that's what I was thinking but he remembered the kiss.

Does he remember Sunday night too? But he acted normal on Monday morning when I went for breakfast, pretending everything to be normal. Was he pretending too?

In the past one week, we both pretty much acted normal and been like we have been for the past one month. Neither he nor I discussed Sunday night. Also, he didn't bring up anything about Veda. It has been about either business or his cooking. In the past week Hridhay didn't even bring up the topic of me leaving at the end of the contract.

It feels like I'm stuck in the middle of a directionless desert.

"Oie," Divya patted my temple and got my attention. "Enna confusion nu ketom."

"Sorry, vara vara romba zone out aguraren." I sighed and laid back on Sneha's bed. "Veda va kiss paniten. Avaru kooda lifetime iruka pora mariyum soliten. Aana athu eppadi possible."

"Yen possible aagathu." Sneha patted my knee and I sat up to detail the events of Sunday evening.

"So you mean Hridhay too has feelings for you?" Divya gave me the I told you look.

"I guess so."

"Intha guess so drama ellam vidutu accept the fact." Divya finished doing makeup for Sneha and kept the brush aside.

"Aana avanuku fiancee iruku. Arunachalam sir pesi vechu irukaru." I played with the tip of my shawl.

"Avanuku fiancee iruntha nallathu thaane. Unaku Veda kooda route clear la." Sneha stood up and removed her robe that covered her blouse and underskirt clad body.
