It was late in the evening and Sarah and Rory were both in the lounge.
"So who was she? Amy I mean, it seemed like you two were pretty close". Sarah looked at her fiancé who was sitting on the sofa.
"An old girlfriend, we were together for a while, I was actually going to ask her to marry me".
"Why did you break up?"
"She kicked me out, she didn't tell me this at the time, but she couldn't give me children, and she knew how much I wanted them".
"Sounds like she really loved you".
Rory looked at her and nodded, "she still does".
Sarah sat down next to him, "do you still love her?"
"No, of course not, I love you". He took hold of her hand and kissed it.
She sighed and looked at him, "what Amy did, Rory, was out of love, she gave up her own happiness to give you a life you always wanted, I can tell you still love her, or at least have some feelings towards her, even if you can't have children with her, there's always adoption".
"Sarah, don't do this, I want to marry you".
"And I want to marry you too, but not if it stops you from being with the one you truly love, I just want you to have the best life you can." She took her ring off and gave it to him, "go and be with Amy, Rory".
He looked at her and hugged her, "Thank you" he stood up and went to the door.
"Oh and Rory, if it doesn't work out, you know where to find me" she smiled at him as he smiled back and left.
